چکیده

Non-uniformity in data extents is a general characteristic of spatial data. Indexing such non-uniform data using conventional spatial index structures such as R -trees is inefficient for two reasons: (1) The non-uniformity increases the likelihood of overlapping index entries, and, (2) clustering of non-uniform data is likely to index more dead space than clustering of uniform data. To reduce the impact of these anomalies, we propose a new scheme that promotes data objects to higher levels in tree-based index structures. We examine two criteria for promotion of data objects and evaluate their relative merits using an R -tree. In experiments on cartographic data, we observe that our promotion criteria yield upto 45% improvement in query performance

Spatial Indexing of Large Multidimensional Databases

Scientific endeavors such as large astronomical surveys generate databases on the terabyte scale. These, usually multidimensional databases must be visualized and mined in order to find interesting objects or to extract meaningful and qualitatively new relationships. Many statistical algorithms required for these tasks run reasonably fast when operating on small sets of in-memory data, but take...

Definition The indexing set of dimension p in a particular space; denoted by IP P is the set of all indexing points of p in that space. A spatial database allows for storing and retrieving spatial objects and consists of spatial relations which may contain spatial as well as non-spatial data. Spatial data can be points. lines, rectangles, surfaces. or more complex objects. Similar to other data...

Global Indexing of 3d Vector Geographic Features

Geographic data management is essential for development of geo-related applications and systems. Fast access to a subset of data related to an area of interest with a sufficient precision is a common need for geographic applications. The mechanism for organizing data in the database determines how geographic features can be represented, whether or not the underlying database can be distributed ...

Investigating the effect of pseudo-static components on bridge structures under multiple support excitations using conditional simulated records

Long-span bridges, as vital structures, play a very important role in economic development. Furthermore, the results of several earthquake-damaged bridges showed that their seismic behavior was different from that predicted under uniform excitation and in some cases the responses were more than predicted results. Therefore, the damaged bridges under non-uniform excitations were re-analyzed and ...

BigYAP: Exo-compilation meets UDI

The widespread availability of large data-sets poses both an opportunity and a challenge to logic programming. A first approach is to couple a relational database with logic programming, say, a Prolog system with MySQL. While this approach does pay off in cases where the data cannot reside in main memory, it is known to introduce substantial overheads. Ideally, we would like the Prolog system t...
