This yields an expression for the density of states ̺(E) in the system which interpolates continuously between the two-dimensional ̺(E) =constant behavior for high energies and the three-dimensional ̺(E) ∝ √ E behavior for low energies. The relation between electron density and Fermi energy in the system also interpolates between the two-dimensional and three-dimensional equations.

The Atomistic Green’s Function Method for Interfacial Phonon Transport

The atomistic Green’s function method (AGF) has emerged as a useful tool to study phonon transport across interfaces. A comprehensive review of developments in the AGF method over the last decade is provided in this chapter. The content includes a discussion of the fundamentals of a Green’s function starting from a continuum viewpoint and extending it to the atomistic regime. Comprehensive deri...

Effect of TiO2 Nanofiber Density on Organic-Inorganic Based Hybrid Solar Cells (RESEARCH NOTE)

Abstract In this work, a comparative study of hybrid solar cells based on P3HT and TiO2 nanofibers was accomplished. Electrospinning, a low cost production method for large area nanofibrous films, was employed to fabricate the organic-inorganic hybrid solar cells based on poly (3-hexylthiophene) and TiO2 nanofibers. The performance of the hybrid solar cells was analyzed for four density levels ...

Nonequilibrium Green’s-Function Approach to the Suppression of Rectification at Metal–Mott-Insulator Interfaces

The suppression of rectification at metal–Mott-insulator interfaces, which was previously shown by numerical solutions to the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and experiments on real devices, is reinvestigated theoretically using nonequilibrium Green’s functions. The one-dimensional Hubbard model is used for a Mott insulator. The effects of attached metallic electrodes are incorporated into ...

Dimensional Effects on Densities of States and Interactions in Nanostructures

We consider electrons in the presence of interfaces with different effective electron mass, and electromagnetic fields in the presence of a high-permittivity interface in bulk material. The equations of motion for these dimensionally hybrid systems yield analytic expressions for Green's functions and electromagnetic potentials that interpolate between the two-dimensional logarithmic potential a...

Three-Dimensional Interfacial Green’s Function for Exponentially Graded Transversely Isotropic Bi-Materials

By virtue of a complete set of two displacement potentials, an analytical derivation of the elastostatic Green’s functions of an exponentially graded transversely isotropic bi-material full-space was presented. Three-dimensional point-load Green’s functions for stresses and displacements were given in line-integral representations. The formulation included a complete set of transformed stress-p...
