Is CRP A Better Predictor of Heart Attack Risk than Serum Cholesterol?

چکیده
It is now scientifically well established that inflammation plays a role in the initiation, growth and destabilization of atherosclerotic plaques that lead to clogged arteries and most heart attacks. The rupture of unstable, cholesterol-filled plaques triggers the formation of a blood clot inside the artery that can suddenly block blood flow to tissues down stream from that clot.[1] [2] [3] Inflammation promotes blood clot formation.[4] There seems to be little doubt that inflammation plays some role in both the growth of atherosclerotic plaques and their subsequent rupture and clot formation. The question is how can this inflammation be accurately measured and what steps should be taken clinically if inflammatory markers are elevated.

C-Reactive Protein A Simple Test to Help Predict Risk of Heart Attack and Stroke
Of the 1.5 million heart attacks and 600 000 strokes that occur in the United States each year, almost half will affect apparently healthy men and women with normal or even low cholesterol levels. Older age, smoking, diabetes, and high blood pressure all contribute to risk of heart disease. However, you may well have family members or friends who suffer from heart disease yet have few, if any, ...

متن کاملSoluble Adiponectin is a New Predictor for Cardiovascular Complications in Patients with End Stage Renal Disease
Mortality due to cardiovascular complications (CVC) in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) is 20 fold higher than in general population. Adiponectin (ADPN) hormone from adipose tissues accumulation in serum is attributed to reduced renal clearance. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible role of ADPN as a predictor of CVC in adult patients with ESRD on hemodialysis (HD), ...

ABSTRACT Cholesterol and particularly LDL-c is one of the most important risk factors of cordiovascular disease. The most important environmental factor that influence this anomaly is nutritional status. The aim of this Cross-Sectional study was determination of the level of serum cholesterol and its association with fats and cholesterol intake. we selected 628 men and women aged 35-65 years o...
متن کاملA cross-sectional study on serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein level and shift work among reproductive age women
Background: Among the inflammatory factors, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is one of the strongest predictors of cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship of serum hs-CRP level with shift work among reproductive age women. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2017 to May 2018 in three cities in Mazandaran Province, North of ...
