چکیده
This paper introduces a methodology to simulate the dynamics of visco-elastic 3-dimensional bodies in realtime using a nite element approach. The method is currently being applied to a haptic simulation of a deformable body incorporating mass, damping, and sti ness. The central idea in this scheme is to reduce the computation required in regions which are to the periphery of area of interaction between the virtual haptic device and the virtual body. This is accomplished by implementing a multi-layer mesh; the top layer, or parent mesh, consisting of a coarse mesh, while child meshes represent sub-regions of the coarse mesh but have a much ner resolution. The e ective decoupling of regions enables the system not only to have di erent resolutions in di erent regions, but also allows the regions of the mesh to be updated at di erent frequencies. The key to achieving this is by utilizing equivalent impedances.

Wave Propagation Approach to Fluid Filled Submerged Visco-Elastic Finite Cylindrical Shells
Multi-layer orthotropic finite cylindrical shells with a viscoelastic core in contact with fluids are gaining increasing importance in engineering. Vibrational control of these structures is essential at higher modes. In this study, an extended version of the wave propagation approach using first-order shear deformation theory of shell motion is employed to examine the free vibration of damped ...

The use of haptics in virtual applications has become widespread in the last decade in several areas, especially in medical applications. After the integration of haptics, virtual medical simulations have been more popular than plastic tissue models or cadavers. متن کاملBackcalculation of pavement layer parameters using Artificial Neural Networks
In this paper, a new formulation based on Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) is presented for backcalculation of pavement layer moduli. In structural analysis of flexible pavements, the procedures as Layered Elastic Theory, Equivalent Layer Thickness (ELT), and Finite Elements Method (FEM) generally have complex formulations and give approximate results. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to pe...
متن کاملA visco-elastic model for high-density cellulose insulation materials
A macroscopic constitutive equation is developed for a high-density cellulose insulation material with emphasis on the outof-plane stress relaxation behavior. A hypothesis is proposed where the total stress is additively composed by an out-of-plane visco-elastic isotropic contribution and an in-plane elastic orthotropic response. The theory is validated against out-of-plane stress relaxation, c...
