چکیده

It is widely believed that dark matter exists within galaxies and clusters of galaxies. Under the assumption that this dark matter is composed of the lightest, stable supersymmetric particle, assumed to be the neutralino, the feasibility of its indirect detection via observations of a diffuse gamma-ray signal due to neutralino annihilations within M31 is examined. To this end, first the dark matter halo of the close spiral galaxy M31 is modeled from observations, then the resultant gamma-ray flux is estimated within supersymmetric model configurations. We conclude that under favorable conditions such as the rapid accretion of neutralinos on the central black hole in M31 and/or the presence of many clumps inside its halo with r−3/2 inner profiles, a neutralino annihilation gamma-ray signal is marginally detectable by the ongoing collaboration CELESTE. on leave from Henryk Niewodniczanski Institute of Nuclear Physics in Cracow

Either neutralino dark matter or cuspy dark halos

We show that if the neutralino in the minimal supersymmetric standard model is the dark matter in our galaxy, there cannot be a dark matter cusp extending to the galactic center. Conversely, if a dark matter cusp extends to the galactic center, the neutralino cannot be the dark matter in our galaxy. We obtain these results considering the synchrotron emission from neutralino annihilations aroun...

EXOTIC MATTER RESEARCH IN SPACE Rom2F/2001/06

The direct detection of annihilation products in cosmic rays offers an alternative way to search for dark matter particles candidates. Here we will see in particular that the study of the spectrum of antiproton and positrons offers good possibilities to perform this search and we will review our experimental effort in this direction. 1 Probing for dark matter with cosmic rays space experiments ...

Planned Dark Matter Searches with the Magic Telescope

The MAGIC 17m-diameter Imaging Air Cherenkov Telescope (IACT) has been commissioned beginning of 2005. The telescope has been designed to achieve the lower detection energy threshold ever obtained with an IACT, about 50 GeV. A new window in γ-ray astronomy is being opened with great impact for exciting new physics and new discoveries. Among the targets of MAGIC is the indirect detection of Dark...

Light Scalar Top Quarks and Supersymmetric Dark Matter

A stable neutralino χ̃1, assumed to be the lightest supersymmetric particle, is a favored particle physics candidate for the cosmological Dark Matter. We study co– annihilation of the lightest neutralino with the lighter scalar top quark t̃1. We show that for natural values of the neutralino mass, ∼300 GeV, the χ̃1–t̃1 mass difference has to exceed ∼ 10 to 30 GeV if χ̃1 is to contribute significantl...

CP-Violating Effects in Neutralino Scattering and Annihilation

We show that in some regions of supersymmetric parameter space, CP violating effects that mix the CP-even and CP-odd Higgs bosons can enhance the neutralino annihilation rate, and hence the indirect detection rate of neutralino dark matter, by factors of 106. The same CP violating effects can reduce the neutralino scattering rate off nucleons, and hence the direct detection rate of neutralino d...
