Cosmic Ray Measurements in the Atmosphere
نویسنده
چکیده
We present the main characteristics of cosmic ray population in the atmosphere and its variability (11-and 22-year solar cycle variations, solar protons originating from powerful solar flares, energetic electron precipitation during geomagnetic disturbances and Forbush decreases of cosmic rays). The experimental data were obtained from the long-term cosmic ray monitoring in the atmosphere from 1957 to now. The relationship between cosmic ray fluxes, and atmospheric processes are also discussed. 1. METHOD OF REGULAR MEASUREMENTS OF COSMIC RAYS IN THE ATMOSPHERE Regular cosmic ray measurements of cosmic rays are carried out with different instruments: ionization chambers, meson telescopes, and neutron monitors on the ground. The idea of cosmic ray monitoring in the atmosphere with radiosondes was suggested by Prof. S.N. Vernov in the middle of fifties and was realized by him and Prof. A.N. Charakhchyan in 1957. Now the cosmic ray monitoring cover a wide range of cosmic ray energy spectrum. It is schematically shown in Fig. 1.

Geomagnetic Field Eect over Azimuth Anisotropy of Cosmic Rays via Study of Primary Particles
Geomagnetic field is a one of the candidates for creation of anisotropy in azimuth distribution of extensive air showers over the entered cosmic rays to the atmosphere. Here we present the question: Is there any azimuth anisotropy flux in the upper level of the atmosphere due to the geomagnetic field over the entered cosmic-rays? The obtained answer is: yes. This investigation showed an agreeme...
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Nuclear Cosmic Rays propagation in the Atmosphere
The transport of the nuclear cosmic ray flux in the atmosphere is studied and the atmospheric corrections to be applied to the measurements are calculated. The contribution of the calculated corrections to the accuracy of the experimental results are discussed and evaluated over the kinetic energy range 10-10 GeV/n. The Boron (B) and Carbon (C) elements system is used as a test case. It is show...
متن کاملDo Be - 10 and C - 14 give us the information about cosmic rays in the past ?
In the atmosphere cosmic rays produce Be-10, C-14 and other radionuclides. It is commonly supposed that the concentrations of these radionuclides (Be-10 in polar ice and C-14 in tree rings) are good proxies of cosmic ray fluxes impinging on the top of the atmosphere. But before the precipitation on the Earth’s surface these elements spend several years in the atmosphere. The stirring of their c...
متن کاملTime Delays in Cosmic Ray Propagation
Cosmic Rays (CR) travel at speeds essentially indistinguishable from the speed of light. However whilst travelling through magnetic fields, both regular and turbulent, they are delayed behind the light since they are usually charged particles and their paths are not linear. Those delays can be so long that they are an impediment to correctly identifying sources which may be variable in time. Fu...
متن کاملThree component model of cosmic ray spectra from 10 GeV to 100 PeV
Aims. A model to describe cosmic ray spectra in the energy region from 10 10 to 10 17 eV is suggested based on the assumption that Galactic cosmic ray flux is a mixture of fluxes accelerated by shocks from nova and supernova of different types. Methods. We analyze recent experimental data on cosmic ray spectra obtained in direct measurements above the atmosphere and data obtained with ground Ex...
