چکیده

The renormalization group is not only a powerful method for describing universal properties of phase transitions but it is also useful for evaluating non-universal thermodynamic properties beyond meanfield theory. In this contribution we concentrate on these latter aspects of the renormalization group approach. We introduce its main underlying ideas in the familiar context of the ideal Bose gas and then apply them to the case of an interacting, confined Bose gas within the framework of the random phase approximation. We model confinement by periodic boundary conditions and demonstrate how confinement modifies the flow equations of the renormalization group changing thus the thermodynamic properties of the gas.

Renormalization group approach to the spin-1 Bose gas

Abstract. A field theoretical renormalization group approach at two loop level is applied to the homogeneous spin-1 Bose gas in order to investigate the order of the phase transition. The beta function of the system with d = 4− ǫ dimensions is determined up to the third power of the coupling constants and the system’s free energy on the border of the classical stability is given in next to lead...

Ground State Pressure and Energy Density of a Homogeneous Bose Gas in Two Dimensions

We consider an interacting homogeneous Bose gas at zero temperature in two spatial dimensions. The properties of the system can be calculated as an expansion in powers of g, where g is the coupling constant. We calculate the ground state pressure and the ground state energy density to second order in the quantum loop expansion. The renormalization group is used to sum up leading and subleading ...

Effect of Interactions on the Critical Temperature of a Dilute Bose Gas

Due to the observation of Bose-Einstein condensation in dilute atomic 87Rb and 23Na vapors last year, there is currently a great interest in the properties of a degenerate Bose gas. One aspect that is not yet understood is the effect of the interatomic interactions on the critical temperature of the phase transition. We present here a renormalization group study of the weakly-interacting Bose g...

Phase diagram of the bose Hubbard model

The first reliable analytic calculation of the phase diagram of the bose gas on a d-dimensional lattice with on-site repulsion is presented. In one dimension, the analytic calculation is in excellent agreement with the numerical Monte Carlo results. In higher dimensions, the deviations from the Monte Carlo calculations are larger, but the correct shape of the Mott insulator lobes is still obtai...

Renormalization Effects in a Dilute Bose Gas

The low-density expansion for a homogeneous interacting Bose gas at zero temperature can be formulated as an expansion in powers of √ ρa, where ρ is the number density and a is the S-wave scattering length. Logarithms of ρa appear in the coefficients of the expansion. We show that these logarithms are determined by the renormalization properties of the effective field theory that describes the ...
