Information Exchange in Group Decision Making: The Hidden Profile Problem Reconsidered
نویسندگان
چکیده
Group decision making provides a mechanism for channeling individual members’ knowledge into productive organizational outcomes. However, in hidden profile experiments in which group members have common information favoring an inferior choice, with private information favoring a superior choice, groups typically choose an inferior alternative. We report a hidden profile experiment where we induce homogenous preferences over choice characteristics and provide financial incentives so that the common purpose assumptions of the model hold more completely than in past experiments. Nevertheless, groups continue to choose an inferior alternative most of the time. These failures primarily result from mistakes in recalling information, in conjunction with the fact that mistakes in recalling common information (which favors an inferior candidate) are typically corrected, while mistakes in recalling the private information needed to uncover the hidden profile cannot be corrected. As such the dismal performance of groups in pooling the information needed to identify the superior option primarily result from the structure of the problem rather than deficiencies in how groups share and process information. The discussions necessary to resolve mistakes in recalling common information also help to

متن کاملUsing Genetic Algorithm in Solving Stochastic Programming for Multi-Objective Portfolio Selection in Tehran Stock Exchange
Investor decision making has always been affected by two factors: risk and returns. Considering risk, the investor expects an acceptable return on the investment decision horizon. Accordingly, defining goals and constraints for each investor can have unique prioritization. This paper develops several approaches to multi criteria portfolio optimization. The maximization of stock returns, the pow...
متن کاملTwenty-five years of hidden profiles in group decision making: a meta-analysis.
This meta-analysis summarized findings from 65 studies using the hidden profile paradigm (101 independent effects, 3,189 groups). Results showed (a) groups mentioned two standard deviations more pieces of common information than unique information; (b) hidden profile groups were eight times less likely to find the solution than were groups having full information; (c) two measures of informatio...
متن کاملSupplier selection with multi-criteria group decision making based on interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets (case study on a project-based company)
Supplier selection can be considered as a complicated multi criteria decision-making problem. In this paper the problem of supplier selection is studied in the presence of conflicting evaluations and insufficient information about the criteria and different attitudes of decision makers towards the risk. Most of fuzzy approaches used in multi-criteria group decision making (MCGDM) are non-intuiti...
متن کاملA Novel Method for Selecting the Supplier Based on Association Rule Mining
One of important problems in supply chains management is supplier selection. In a company, there are massive data from various departments so that extracting knowledge from the company’s data is too complicated. Many researchers have solved this problem by some methods like fuzzy set theory, goal programming, multi objective programming, the liner programming, mixed integer programming, analyti...
