Spin waves in CoFeB on ferroelectric domains combining spin mechanics and magnonics

چکیده
Spin dynamics controlled by magnetoelastic coupling and applied electric fields might play a vital role in future developments of magnonics, i.e., the exploitation of spin waves for the transmission and processing of information. We have performed broadband spin-wave spectroscopy on a magnetostrictive CoFeB alloy grown on a ferrolectric BaTiO3 substrate causing elastic strain with a quasi-periodic modulation. We find characteristic eigenfrequencies and spin-wave modes with large group velocities and small damping. These results suggest bright perspectives for electric-field control of reprogrammable magnonics.

To face the challenges lying beyond present technologies based on complementary metal-oxide-semiconductors, new paradigms for information processing are required. Magnonics proposes to use spin waves to carry and process information, in analogy with photonics that relies on light waves, with several advantageous features such as potential operation in the terahertz range and excellent coupling ...
متن کاملMicro-focused Brillouin light scattering: imaging spin waves at the nanoscale
Spin waves are the elementary excitations of the spin system in a magnetically ordered material state and magnons are their quasi particles. In the following article, we will discuss Brillouin light scattering (BLS) spectroscopy which is now a well-established tool for the characterization of spin waves. BLS is the inelastic scattering of light from spin waves and confers several benefits: the ...

Magnonics is based on signal transmission and processing by spin waves (or their quanta, called magnons) propagating in a magnetic medium. In the same way as nanoplasmonics makes use of metallic nanostructures to confine and guide optical-frequency plasmon-polaritons, nanomagnonics uses nanoscale magnetic waveguides to control the propagation of spin waves. Recent advances in the physics of nan...

Magnonics is an emerging field dealing with ultralow power consumption logic circuits, in which the flow of spin waves, rather than electric charges, transmits and processes information. Waves, including spin waves, excel at encoding information via their phase using interference. This enables a number of inputs to be processed in one device, which offers the promise of multi-input multi-output...
