چکیده

With more than a decade of development led by the IETF, and a plethora of devices and software systems speaking its dialect, SIP together with its related standards has grown in size and scale, raising concerns over interoperability. In this paper, we explore SIP interoperability (or lack thereof) by proposing systematic methodologies for identifying and analyzing the basic-level protocol interoperability issues that plague SIP usage in the real-world. We also dissect and describe a few of the commonly observed SIP interoperability issues and their implications. Our test results clearly indicate that even the basiclevel of SIP interoperability is far from ideal.

An Interoperable Signaling Solution between SIP and H.323

The Session Initiation Protocol and H.323 dominate the Voice over IP world. These signaling protocols are responsible for call setup and call tear down by IP telephony solutions. This project analyses and discusses the underlying H.323 and SIP interoperability issues and intends to build a scalable solution for the interoperability of these protocols. The gateway maps the call sequences between...

Comparison of Call Signalling Protocols for Ad-hoc Networks

The two major standards in the multimedia services over IP area are the protocol suites H.323 (ITU-T) and SIP (IETF).Both have emerged as competing protocol standards for the signaling and call control of IP telephony. SIP is designed with a broader scope, offering functions specifically designed to enable easy extensions; it should be the advantage for new potential services. H.323 is still th...

SIP-based Mobility Management in 4G networks

4G systems will need to integrate several IP-based access technologies in a seamless way. In this paper, we first describe the requirements of a Mobility Management scheme for multimedia real-time communication services; then, we report a survey of the Mobility Management schemes proposed in the recent literature to perform vertical handovers between heterogeneous networks. Based on this analys...

Change Process for the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and the Real-time Applications and Infrastructure Area

This memo documents a process intended to organize the future development of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and related work in the Real-time Applications and Infrastructure (RAI) Area. As the environments in which SIP is deployed grow more numerous and diverse, modifying or extending SIP in certain ways may threaten the interoperability and security of the protocol; however, the IETF pr...

Mobile SCIP: Managing terminal mobility in heterogeneous networks with the SIP Handover Extension

Advances in Network-centric Warfare require that speech and data must be shared among all tactical levels and across different network domains while the communication still is secured. SCIP (Secure Communications Interoperability Protocol) is an applicationlayer communication protocol designed to ensure secure end-to-end communication. When SCIP is implemented on mobile terminals operating in a...
