چکیده

(b) The paper would also be improved by more details on the CCR. Eg, how are the ECMWF and MSIS data combined at 65 km? In addition, although the authors claim that the temperature is initialised at 120 km, I suspect that the hydrostatic is effectively initialised at a much lower height than this. More details about the retrieval, particularly concerning the specific questions of the Referee are given in Section 2.3 of the paper now. For the discussion of the specific points, please refer to our answers to the specific comments.

Retrieval of temperature profiles from CHAMP for climate monitoring: intercomparison with Envisat MIPAS and GOMOS and different atmospheric analyses

This study describes and evaluates a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) radio occultation (RO) retrieval scheme particularly aimed at delivering bias-free atmospheric parameters for climate monitoring and research. The focus of the retrieval is on the sensible use of a priori information for careful high-altitude initialisation in order to maximise the usable altitude range. The RO retri...

Early Validation of Vertical Profiles from the Envisat Atmospheric Instruments Gomos and Mipas with the University of Bonn Lidar at the Esrange in July and August 2002

The vertical structure of the terrestrial atmosphere is governed by hydrostatic equilibrium, which relates altitude, temperature, and pressure (or density). The mixing ratios derived for the chemically important trace gases depend on a precise knowledge of this basic atmospheric structure. The Bonn University backscatter lidar on the Esrange (68N, 21E) near Kiruna, Sweden, was operated from mid...

Applications on a Grid Infrastructure for Atmospheric Instruments Gomos, Mipas, Sciamachy, and Champ

We present a collection of atmospheric science applications, which are implemented in the ESRIN Grid Processing on-Demand (G-POD) environment. G-POD provides an efficient and highly collaborative environment to faster process and interpret large amounts of Earth Observation (EO) data. It combines storage and computing elements, which are located in different geographic locations and combines th...
