Multihop packet scheduling in WDM/TDM networks with nonnegligible transceiver tuning times

چکیده
This paper addresses the design of packet transmission schedules in photonic slotted wavelength-division multiplexing/time-division multiplexing broadcast-and-select networks with wavelengths and nodes. Nodes are equipped with one tunable-wavelength transmitter with nonnegligible tuning times and one fixed-wavelength receiver. A new scheduling algorithm that exploits multihop packet transfer to shorten the duration of scheduling periods is first proposed. A single-hop scheduling algorithm that performs slightly better than previous proposals is then described. A simulation-based analysis of the two algorithms shows that they jointly lead to significant improvements in both throughput and delay with respect to previous single-hop schedules.

Packet Scheduling in WDM Ring Networks with Non-uniform Traffic Demands and Arbitrary Transceiver Tuning Latencies
This paper considers the scheduling problem of packet transmissions in a TDM/WDM unidirectional optical ring network. Our objective is to design a scheduling scheme for packet transmission with minimum scheduling length satisfying a set of traffic requirements. We focus on a fairly general case in that non-uniform traffic demands and arbitrary transmitter tuning latencies are allowed. Since the...
متن کاملWavelength Routers in Wdm Local Area Networks
This paper presents a novel scheme for scheduling packet traac on a wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) local optical network which employs a wavelength router. An N physical wavelengths. We propose TDM schedules for interconnecting MN nodes with a wavelength router. We show that for non-zero transceiver tuning time, throughput on the order of N can be achieved.
متن کاملScheduling Packet Transmissions on Logical Topologies in WDM Optical Star Networks
In this paper, we address the design of multi-hop packet transmissions for the All-to-All Broadcast (AAB) problem in a Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) optical star network with N nodes. The tunable transmitter on each node needs a nonnegligible tuning latency δ to switch between wavelengths. To decrease the affection of the packet delay in multi-hop scheduling, the maximum of hop distanc...
متن کاملOn the Design of Optimal TDM Schedules for Broadcast WDM Networks with Arbitrary Transceiver Tuning Latencies
We consider the problem of scheduling packet transmissions in a broadcast, single-hop WDM network. Tunability is provided only at one end, namely, at the transmitters. Our objective is to design schedules of minimum length to satisfy a set of traac requirements given in the form of a demand matrix. We address a fairly general version of the problem as we allow arbitrary traac demands and arbitr...
متن کاملProbabilistic Analysis of Cyclic Packet Transmission Scheduling in WDM Optical Networks
{ We study the packet transmission scheduling problem with tuning delay in wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) optical communication networks with tunable transmitters and xed-tuned receivers. By treating the numbers of packets as random variables, we conduct probabilistic analysis of the average-case performance ratio for the cyclic packet transmission scheduling algorithm. Our numerical dat...
