چکیده
In this paper, dimensioning of Universal Mobile Telecommunication Systems (UMTS) Radio Access Method (RAN) has been performed with respect to varying antenna gain of NodeB and sectorization of site layout of network sites. Three different site layouts have been configured to estimate the number of sites required to cover the deployment area. In the first site layout, Single Omni directional antenna is used, while in the second and third configuration, the network consists of a 3-sector-sites and 6-sector sites respectively. These sectored sites replace the Omni-directional antenna with high gain directional antenna, each placed such that to cover the entire sector area. Antenna gain has been varied as per the site layout typical requirements. Thus, investigation has been carried to study the effect of sectorization and antenna gain on the number of site required to cover the deployment area for different clutter type.

Impact of Base Station Locations and Antenna Orientations on UMTS Radio Network Capacity and Coverage Evolution
The aim of this paper is to study the impact of the base station site locations and antenna orientations on UMTS radio network performance under different traffic distributions, and to find an optimum deployment strategy from 3-sectored to 6-sectored site solutions. A radio network planning tool has been used to verify the radio network system performance of different network scenarios. The res...
متن کاملCommon radio resource management for WLAN-UMTS integration at radio access level
WLAN-UMTS integration in the UMTS-based approach can be performed either at the UMTS Core Network (CN) or Radio Access Network (UTRAN). Both interworking solutions provide the operator with additional license-free bandwidth and promise good handover performance. Integration at the radio access level has the advantage that the UMTS core network protocols remain unaffected and the interworking ar...
متن کاملOptimization Methods for UMTS Radio Network Planning
The UMTS radio network planning problem poses the challenge of designing a cost-effective network that provides users with sufficient coverage and capacity. We describe an optimization model for this problem that is based on comprehensive planning data of the EU project Momentum. We present heuristic mathematical methods for this realistic model, including computational results.

Network optimization strategies are core ingredients of radio access network planning for second and third generation mobile systems like GSM and UMTS. We present a combined approach for network topology optimization of the UMTS terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN) which considers the logical network structure as well as transport network aspects. We focus on including Point-to-Multipoint (...

The aim of this paper is to assess the applicability of repeaters for downlink capacity improvement in hotspots through field measurements. Deployment of repeaters in capacity-limited scenarios requires more careful radio network planning compared to the traditional approach for operation in coverage-limited environment. The results of the field measurements conducted in an urban UMTS network r...
