Diffusion-Weighted Imaging of the Abdomen with Readout-Segmented (RS)-EPI

چکیده
Introduction: Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in the abdomen has proven useful for various pathologies, including liver lesion characterization [1-4] and simple vessel suppression, diagnosis of diffuse renal disease [5-8], and detection of metastatic spread to lymph nodes [9,10]. However, image distortions arising from the use of EPI has shown to be problematic. We have recently applied DW ‘Short-Axis Propeller’ (SAP)-EPI to the abdomen on adults to reduce geometric distortions via its faster k-space traversal [11]. In this work we explore the use of another short-axis readout technique, Readout-Segmented (RS)-EPI [12], for imaging the abdomen. As shown in Figure 1, the use of several adjacent segments in RS-EPI results in reduced distortion compared with EPI.

Diffusion-Weighted, Readout-Segmented EPI with Synthesized T2- and T2*-Weighted Images
Purpose: Diffusion-weighted Imaging (DWI) using readout-segmented EPI (rs-EPI) with 2D navigator correction [1] is an alternative to standard single-shot EPI (ss-EPI) that improves image quality by reducing susceptibility artifacts and allowing a higher spatial resolution. This improved image quality raises the possibility that the low b-value image could be used to replace a separate T2-weight...
متن کاملScan time reduction for readout‐segmented EPI using simultaneous multislice acceleration: Diffusion‐weighted imaging at 3 and 7 Tesla
PURPOSE Readout-segmented echo-planar imaging (rs-EPI) can provide high quality diffusion data because it is less prone to distortion and blurring artifacts than single-shot echo-planar imaging (ss-EPI), particularly at higher resolution and higher field. Readout segmentation allows shorter echo-spacing and echo train duration, resulting in reduced image distortion and blurring, respectively, i...
متن کاملReadout-Segmented Echo-Planar Imaging in Diffusion-Weighted MR Imaging in Breast Cancer: Comparison with Single-Shot Echo-Planar Imaging in Image Quality
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to compare the image quality of standard single-shot echo-planar imaging (ss-EPI) and that of readout-segmented EPI (rs-EPI) in patients with breast cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy-one patients with 74 breast cancers underwent both ss-EPI and rs-EPI. For qualitative comparison of image quality, three readers independently assessed the two sets of ...
متن کاملDiffusion-weighted imaging of the spine with readout-segmented (RS)-EPI
Introduction: The development of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) of the spine has been hindered by the large off-resonance effects problematic for single-shot EPI. Overcoming these restrictions would open up applications ranging from the diagnosis of spinal cord infarction, vertebral body fractures, lymphoma, trauma, and many other disorders. Navigated interleaved EPI has been shown to overcom...
متن کاملMR-based and Optical Prospective Motion Correction for High Resolution DWI with RS-EPI
Introduction: Recently, multiple approaches have been proposed to perform motion correction for diffusion imaging using optical tracking with cameras [1,2] or using MR-based methods which perform real-time registration between volumes [3-5]. In this study, we demonstrate the application of and compare both optical and MR-based motion correction to high-resolution diffusion-weighted imaging usin...
