Trichosporon aneurinolyticum, a new thiamine-destroying fungus.

چکیده
The production of thiaminase by a bacterium of the intestinal tract as an etiologic factor of beriberi has received considerable study by Japanese work ers. Chang (1) observed that when a thiamine solution was placed in the sigmoidal colon of a patient having habitual constipation combined with beri beri, the vitamin soon disappeared. The first discovery of a thiaminase producing micro-organism was made by Matsukawa and Misawa (2) and it was designated as Bacillus thiaminolyticus Matsukawa et Misawa. Thereafter, two other thiamine-destroying bacteria, Bacillus aneurinolyticus. Kimura et Aoyama and Clostridium thiaminolyticum Kimura et Liao were found by Kimura et al. (3, 4) Jacobsohn and Rosado (5) reported the thiaminase in Candida albicans, Lenzites quercina and Ctenomyces interdigitalis, whereby the characteristics of the enzyme were not decided, leaving unsettled whether the enzyme was really thiaminase or thiaminokinase, etc. A thiaminase-carrying new fungus (6, 7) was found by the authors. Its characteristics resembled largely those of Trichosporon cutaneum. In this paper, the thiaminase of the new fungus and its mycological char acterics are described.

Trichosporon and trichosporonosis
Trichosporon is a genus of anamorphic fungi in the family Trichosporonaceae. All species of Trichosporon are yeasts with no known teleomorphs. Most are typically isolated from soil, but several species occur as a natural part of the skin microbiota of humans and other animals. Proliferation of Trichosporon yeasts in the hair can lead to an unpleasant but non-serious condition known as white pie...

متن کاملActivities of D0870, a novel triazole, against Candida lusitaniae and Trichosporon beigelii in experimental murine infections.
Candida lusitaniae and Trichosporon beigelii may cause life-threatening infections in the immunocompromised host and may be resistant to amphotericin B. We assessed the activities of a new triazole, D0870, against one T. beigelii and four C. lusitaniae strains, in comparison with those of fluconazole and amphotericin B. Immunosuppressed CF1 mice, intravenously infected with each fungal strain, ...

OBJECTIVE To report the first case of disseminated Trichosporon spp infection in a newborn infant in Brazil, discussing a few aspects concerning management and treatment. A new spectrum of pathogens associated with severe infections in neonatal ICU has arisen, afflicting mainly newborn infants weighing less than 1,000 g at birth. Infection with Trichosporon asahii is rare and often fatal in thi...
متن کاملDestruction of thiamine by certain fungi.
Yonezawa and Aoki (1) examined the thiamine-decomposing activity of cell suspensions of 96 strains of yeast-like fungi isolated from the oral cavity and found that, while Candida albicans, of which there were 62 strains, failed to show any thiaminase activity, the C4 strain forming abnormal colonies had a strong thiaminase activity. Another strain, A9, was also found to have thia minase activit...
