Ubiquitous Geographic Information

چکیده
But it has its flaws. As early as the 1980's, the GIS community has been accused of elitism, archaism and being, in essence, “ivory tower geomancers.” Although not all of the GIS community deserved these pejoratives, the problem may have arisen because of the things we “fought” about, such as the use of mainline IT databases, the separation of geometry and “nongraphic” attributes, the effective use of mathematical and computer science tools such as topology, graphics platforms, CAD and AEC. Many GIS implementors spent more time arguing that “geospatial” was somehow different, and required its own technology – resulting in the general belief that “spatially enabling” application required expensive GIS add-ins and applications which, in less than grand applications, did not generate a reasonable return on investment.

The Road to Ubiquitous Geographic Information Systems Roam Anywhere - Remain Connected
The concept of ubiquitous computing has been with us since the initial development of the computer. However, it is only now that technology has reached a level of maturity that allows the computer to be integrated into our environment in a manner that permits information to be only as far away as our fingertips. The emergence of ubiquitous computing is an indication of the maturity of distribut...
متن کاملTitle Not Required the Wikification of Geospatial Metadata
For decades, metadata has been the ever-present, cure-all solution to heterogeneous data integration and use. Yet, high-quality, ubiquitous metadata is extremely rare in practice. Current volunteered geographic information systems may provide insights on how the scientific community can produce and manage metadata for geospatial data infrastructures.
متن کاملTracking System using Location-Based Services Technology
Available ubiquitous networks that make use of small mobile devices like PDA and cellular phones, offer varied possibility of use by new generation application softwares. These applications utilize the available networks and devices to help users in their daily activities in different geographical areas. These set of applications constitute location based services and combine Geographic Informa...
متن کاملThe World as a User Interface: Augmented Reality for Ubiquitous Computing
We discuss the possibilities of augmented reality (AR) as a ubiquitous user interface to the real world. A mobile AR system can constantly provide guidance to its user through visual annotation of the physical environment. The first part of the paper discusses the necessary ingredients for ubiquitous AR, on which we have worked in the recent past, namely mobile AR hardware, wide area tracking, ...
متن کاملSemantic-Geographic Trajectory Pattern Mining Based on a New Similarity Measurement
Trajectory pattern mining is becoming increasingly popular because of the development of ubiquitous computing technology. Trajectory data contain abundant semantic and geographic information that reflects people’s movement patterns, i.e., who is performing a certain type of activity when and where. However, the variety and complexity of people’s movement activity and the large size of trajector...

In 1988, Mark Weiser, a chief technologist at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center, introduced the term ubiquitous computing, and heralded "the age of calm technology, when technology recedes into the background of our lives." This vision is now fast becoming a reality. Computing will soon be embedded everywhere in the fabric of our lives: in our bodies, phones, homes, and the environments in whic...
