چکیده

Concurrent acariosis due to sarcoptes scabiei var cuniculi (sarcoptes scabiei) and notoedres cati var cuniculi (notoedres cuniculi) was observed in Angora and New Zealand white rabbits belonging to the University rabbitry at Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir (India). Clinically, the affected rabbits revealed scales, lichenification, scab formation, alopecia and pruritis initially on the face near the upper lip which later extended to the full face, ear pinnae, eyelids and lower jaw, developing into hemorrhagic crusts. Skin scrapings from the affected rabbits revealed both types of mites. Additionally, in one scraping mites of Cheyletiella sp. were recognized. Seven of the 35 affected rabbits died of severe mange, histologically showing lesions characterized by hyperkeratosis, acanthosis and subepidermal dermatitis. Staining with toluidine blue showed negative metachomasia, while alcian blue-PAS staining revealed increased acid mucopolysaccharides in epidermis and hair follicles. A single intramuscular dose of doramectin 400 μg decreased the number of mites and their developmental stages with nil concentration in skin scrapings by day 10 post-treatment. Supplemental disinfection of the rabbit cages and house with a blowlamp helped control the acariosis within 3 to 4 weeks.

Prevalence of Sarcoptic Mange in Pet Rabbits (oryctolagus Cuniculus) in Israel

the prevalence of the skin mite, Sarcoptes scabiei, in pet rabbits in pet stores in Israel was investigated by a diagnostic evaluation of twofold skin scrapings from the distal forelimbs. S. scabiei was found in 20 of 245 rabbits (8.2%). Clinical signs of crusting of the paws were observed in all infested rabbits. Sarcoptic mange due to Sarcoptes scabiei infestation is considered an uncommon di...

In this investigation, 25 adult New Zealand White rabbits randomly selected from both sexes and studied.Coloured latex injection and corrosion cast methods were applied on the materials. This study was carried out to disclose the distribution of the cardiac veins of the New Zealand White rabbits. The veins that drain the heart were found to be the great cardiac vein, the middle cardiac vein, th...

Widespread exposure to Sarcoptes scabiei in wild European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) in Spain.

Sarcoptic mange was recently described in the wild European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) in north-eastern Mediterranean Spain, the first such infection reported in this species anywhere in the world. This finding has created concern in conservationists and game managers given that an outbreak of mange after a translocation would have catastrophic consequences for naïve rabbit populations in o...

Streptozotocin Induced Acute Clinical Effectsin Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus)

Background & Objectives: Streptozotocin (STZ) is used for induction of Type-1 diabetes mellitus in animal models. Its beta-cytotoxic action results in sudden release of insulin leading to severe hypoglycaemia and even mortality. However, its sensitivity varies with species. Present investigation was aimed at studying STZ induced acute clinical effects in rabbits. Methods: Str...

Fornix lesions impair context-related cingulothalamic neuronal patterns and concurrent discrimination learning in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus).

Cingulothalamic neurons develop topographic patterns of cue-elicited neuronal activity during discrimination learning. These patterns are context-related and are degraded by hippocampal lesions, suggesting that hippocampal modulation of cingulothalamic activity results in the expression of the patterns, which could promote the retrieval of context-appropriate responses and memories. This hypoth...
