چکیده

Editor’s key points † Continuous measurement of beat-to-beat arterial pressure (AP) during the dynamic phases of anaesthesia facilitates recognition and treatment of acute variations. † The non-invasive AP monitor NexfinTM was compared with invasive AP (IAP) measurements during induction of anaesthesia. † NexfinTM reliably and quickly detected acute changes in AP, but its accuracy was insufficient to replace IAP monitoring. Background. Standard non-invasive arterial pressure (AP) measurements are discontinuous. By providing non-invasive beat-to-beat AP measurements, NexfinTM might limit duration of intraoperative hypotension and hypertension. We assessed the ability of NexfinTM to detect AP variations by comparing its trending ability with invasive AP monitoring.

Use of the Nexfin™ device to detect acute arterial pressure variations during anaesthesia induction.

BACKGROUND Standard non-invasive arterial pressure (AP) measurements are discontinuous. By providing non-invasive beat-to-beat AP measurements, Nexfin™ might limit duration of intraoperative hypotension and hypertension. We assessed the ability of Nexfin™ to detect AP variations by comparing its trending ability with invasive AP monitoring. METHODS Thirty-one subjects undergoing elective surg...

Pre-existing arterial stiffness can predict hypotension during induction of anaesthesia in the elderly.

BACKGROUND The aim of the present study was to establish whether elevated carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (c-fPWV), an indicator of aortic stiffness, assessed before surgery, is correlated with variations in arterial pressure (AP) during induction of anaesthesia in elderly patients undergoing non-cardiovascular surgery. METHODS c-fPWV was measured with the PulsePen(®) device during pre-su...

HY POXIA AND I TS INFLUEN CES ON THE CARDIOVASCULAR AND RESPIRATORY SYSTEMS OF SPONTANEOUSLY BREATHING CATS

Effects of acute systemic hypoxia on the cardiovascular system (CYS) and respiration of spontaneously breathing cats were studied in two conditions. 1): Hypoxic air (6-8% 02 in N2) was given to the animal to induce systemic hypoxia for 20 minutes. Hyperventilation at this condition lowered arterial C02 tension (PaC02 hypocapnia). 2): In the second run, induction of hypocapnia was prevented ...

Investigation of the agreement of a continuous non-invasive arterial pressure device in comparison with invasive radial artery measurement.

BACKGROUND Arterial pressure (AP) monitoring should be accurate, easy to use, free of risks, and ideally continuous. The continuous non-invasive arterial pressure (CNAP) device is non-invasive and provides continuous pressure readings. This study was performed to compare the agreement of CNAP and invasive AP monitoring. METHODS Ninety patients undergoing surgery under general anaesthesia were...
