چکیده

Baillie, Ann (University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland), and John R. Norris. Antigen changes during spore formation in Bacillus cereus. J. Bacteriol. 87:1221-1226. 1964.-Ultrasonic extracts of Bacillus cereus cells harvested at different stages in spore formation were analyzed by immunoelectrophoresis with antisera prepared by injecting similar extracts into rabbits. Seven antigens resistant to heating at 80 C for 10 min were detected in extracts of young vegetative cells, and there were at least eight additional thermolabile antigens present at this stage. During spore formation, many of the thermolabile antigens disappeared from the cells and new antigens could be detected. Mature spores contained four of the heat-resistant antigens present in young vegetative cells and an additional five heat-resistant antigens. Only three thermolabile antigens were detected in spore extracts.

Identification of Bacillus anthracis Spore Component Antigens Conserved across Diverse Bacillus cereus sensu lato Strains*□S

We sought to identify proteins in the Bacillus anthracis spore, conserved in other strains of the closely related Bacillus cereus group, that elicit an immune response in mammals. Two high throughput approaches were used. First, an in silico screening identified 200 conserved putative B. anthracis spore components. A total of 192 of those candidate genes were expressed and purified in vitro, 75...

The comER Gene Plays an Important Role in Biofilm Formation and Sporulation in both Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus

Bacteria adopt alternative cell fates during development. In Bacillus subtilis, the transition from planktonic growth to biofilm formation and sporulation is controlled by a complex regulatory circuit, in which the most important event is activation of Spo0A, a transcription factor and a master regulator for genes involved in both biofilm formation and sporulation. In B. cereus, the regulatory ...

Effect of Water Washing Purification on the Surface Morphology of Bacillus cereus Spores

The architecture of spore surfaces plays an important role in the pathogenesis and natural ecology of many Bacillus organisms. However, changes to the laboratory preparation method for Bacillus spores may be a source of phenotypic variability in cell surfaces that can affect our understanding of in situ morphology and make cross-study comparisons more difficult. In this work, we examined how va...

Characterization of single heat-activated Bacillus spores using laser tweezers Raman spectroscopy.

Heat activation of dormant bacterial spores is a short treatment at a sublethal temperature that potentiates and synchronizes spore germination. In this paper, laser tweezers Raman spectroscopy (LTRS) was used to study the heat activation of single spores of Bacillus cereus and Bacillus subtilis. We measured the Raman spectra of single spores without treatment, during heat activation at 65 degr...
