An Analysis of Anycast Architecture and Transport Layer Problems
نویسنده
چکیده
The Internet Protocol anycasting communication service has been designed to support service locating to the nearest anycast server based on routing protocol measure of distance for anycast service from a pool of identical service servers. The birth of IPv6 has given opportunity to design and implement anycast service at IP layer, which could not be implemented in IPv4 due to addressing complexity. In this paper we analyze and compare the anycast architecture for IPv4 and IPv6. Pitfalls in the new proposed IPv6 anycast design has been identified and solutions to the problems have been proposed. The nature of anycast service, which delivers anycast datagrams to the nearest anycast server independent of previous datagrams, will cause unexpected results if the packets have been fragmented. The fragmented packets may be delivered to different anycast servers and will not be useful for the anycast clients. To obviate the problem we have proposed new protocols at transport layer for anycast messaging between anycast clients and servers for service locating and obtaining information from the servers. FTP client and server applications have been modified to demonstrate the applicability of the proposal.

Gothic: A Group Access Control Architecture for Secure Multicast and Anycast
Multicast and anycast have received considerable attention due to their ability to support networked services. There are distinct and significant security vulnerabilities in both the multicast and anycast model including denial of service, theft of service, eavesdropping, and masquerading. The multicast problem requires a secure IGMP. The anycast problem requires secure anycast server advertise...
متن کاملProtocol Design for Anycast Communication in IPv6 Network
Although anycast communication supports service– oriented addresses many of its current definitions in IPv6 are unclear. Furthermore, since there are no protocol standards or even consensus on routing control, inter–segment anycast communications are not yet available. In this paper, we first discuss these problems and solutions. Based on our findings, we present the Anycast Address Resolving P...

متن کاملAnalysis of an anycast based overlay system for scalable service discovery and execution
Support for anycast in the IP network layer allows one source node to contact a single member out of a group of destination nodes configured with the same IP address. Due to the stateless nature of the IP protocol, subsequent packets from the same source node targeted at the same anycast group may arrive at different group members. Consequently, native IP anycast cannot be applied directly to s...
متن کاملContent Distribution Architecture using Network Layer Anycast
Server replication is a common technique for distributing content efficiently and in a scalable manner to many clients. Directing clients to the “best” of these content-equivalent servers is a non-trivial problem. As a solution, we propose a Content Distribution Architecture using Anycast (CDAA) that uses replicated servers and leverages the idea of anycast, supported at the network layer, to d...
