Calibrating an interferometric laser frequency stabilization to MHz precision

چکیده
We report on a calibration procedure that enhances the precision of an interferometer based frequency stabilization by several orders of magnitude. For this purpose the frequency deviations of the stabilization are measured precisely by means of a frequency comb. This allows to implement several calibration steps that compensate different systematic errors. The resulting frequency deviation is shown to be less than 5.7MHz (rms 1.6MHz) in the whole wavelength interval 750− 795 nm. Wide tuning of a stabilized laser at this exceptional precision is demonstrated.

Frequency stability of a wavelength meter and applications to laser frequency stabilization.
Interferometric wavelength meters have attained frequency resolutions down to the megahertz range. In particular, Fizeau interferometers, which have no moving parts, are becoming a popular tool for laser characterization and stabilization. In this paper, we characterize such a wavelength meter using an ultrastable laser in terms of relative frequency instability σ(y)(τ) and demonstrate that it ...

Frequency stabilization of a diode laser locked to a whispering gallery mode (WGM) reference resonator made of a MgF2 single crystal is demonstrated. The strong thermal dependence of the difference frequency between two orthogonally polarized TE an TM modes (dual-mode frequency) of the optically anisotropic crystal material allows sensitive measurement of the resonator's temperature ...

We describe an apparatus for the stabilization of laser frequencies that prevents long-term frequency drifts. A Fabry–Perot interferometer is thermostated by referencing it to a stabilized He–Ne laser ~master!, and its length is scanned over more than one free spectral range allowing the analysis of one or more lines generated by other ~slave! lasers. A digital acquisition system makes the dete...

Low-frequency high-precision laser interferometry is subject to excess laser-frequency-noise coupling via arm-length differences which is commonly mitigated by locking the frequency to a stable reference system. This approach is crucial to achieve picometer-level sensitivities in the 0.1-mHz to 1-Hz regime, where laser-frequency noise is usually high and couples into the measurement phase via a...
