Characteristics of gastric cancer detected within 1 year after successful eradication of Helicobacter pylori

چکیده
Gastric cancers are sometimes diagnosed in patients who have successfully undergone Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication. We analyzed the clinicopathological features of gastric cancers detected after eradication to clarify their characteristics. We reviewed 31 patients with 34 cases of gastric cancer detected after successful H. pylori eradication. Clinicopathological characteristics analyzed included interval since eradication, interval since last endoscopy, tumor size, and depth of invasion. Patients were classified into two groups: early detection (<1 year since eradication) and delayed detection (≥1 year since eradication). The interval since last endoscopy was significantly shorter in the early detection group than in the delayed detection group. However, gastric cancers were significantly larger and more invasive in the early detection group than in the delayed detection group. In conclusion, diligent endoscopy is necessary during the first year after successful H. pylori eradication. (The University Hospital Medical Information Network clinical trial registration number is UMIN000018541.).

Gastric cancer diagnosed after Helicobacter pylori eradication in diabetes mellitus patients
BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori infection is the most important risk factor for gastric cancer, for which eradication therapy is commonly performed. However, gastric cancer is sometimes discovered after successful eradication of H. pylori. Much evidence indicates that diabetes mellitus (DM) is a risk factor for gastric cancer. The incidence and characteristics of gastric cancer diagnosed after H...
متن کاملPathogenesis and risk factors for gastric cancer after Helicobacter pylori eradication
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection was thought to be the main cause of gastric cancer, and its eradication showed improvement in gastric inflammation and decreased the risk of gastric cancer. Recently, a number of studies reported the occurrence of gastric cancer after successful eradication. Patients infected with H. pylori, even after eradication, have a higher risk for the occurrence ...
متن کاملEffects of Helicobacter pylori eradication on methylation status of E-cadherin gene in noncancerous stomach.
PURPOSE Promoter hypermethylation of E-cadherin plays an important role on gastric cancer development. Whereas E-cadherin methylation was frequently detected in the stomach of Helicobacter pylori-infected individuals, we tested whether eradication of H. pylori alters the methylation status of the noncancerous gastric epithelium. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN Endoscopic biopsies were taken from the antr...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Primary and Metachronous Gastric Cancers Discovered after Helicobacter pylori Eradication: A Multicenter Propensity Score-Matched Study
Background/Aims Gastric cancers develop even after successful Helicobacter pylori eradication. We aimed to clarify the characteristics of early gastric cancers discovered after H. pylori eradication. Methods A total of 1,053 patients with early gastric cancer treated by endoscopic submucosal dissection were included. After matching the propensity score, we retrospectively investigated the cli...

A 71-year-old man was referred to us from another hospital for endoscopic treatment of a IIc lesion at the anterior wall of the lower body of the stomach. In November 2008, he underwent resection of this lesion with endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Follow-up endoscopy revealed a IIc lesion in the posterior wall of the lower body of the stomach, and ESD was again performed in February 200...
