چکیده

An enzymatic reaction has been identified in the isthmus of hen oviduct in which sulfate is transferred from 3’-phosphoadenosine 5’-phosphosulfate to mucopolysaccharide acceptors (1). From studies of the reaction with monosaccharides and oligosaccharides as model acceptors (‘2) it was concluded that one or more enzymes in the preparations employed catalyze a direct transfer of sulfate from PAPS1 to the acceptor. Sulfate could be transferred to an unsulfated acetylgalactosamine residue with the formation of an acetylgalactosamine monosulfate or it could be transferred to an acetylgalactosamine monosulfate residue ,with the formation of an acetylgalactosamine disulfate. In the present paper the products of enzymatic sulfation of chondroitin and chondroitin sulfate A have been carefully examined in order to compare the mechanism of sulfation of these polymers with that of the model acceptors.

Enzymatic sulfation of mucopolysaccharides in hen oviduct. I. Transfer of sulfate from 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulfate to mucopolysaccharides.

The oviduct of the laying hen is an organ histologically differentiated into four areas, each with a unique function in the biosynthesis of the egg (2). It contains high concentrations of a number of unusual nucleotides, including uridine diphosphoacetylgalactosamine and uridine diphosphoacetylgalactosamine-(4?)sulfate (3). More recently, it has been observed that uridine diphosphoacetylgalacto...

Enzymatic Transfer of Sulfate from 3 ’ - Phosphoadenosine S - Phosphosulfate to Uridine Diphosphate

The enzymes catalyzing the sulfation by 3’-phosphoadenosine 5’-phosphosulfate of chondroitin, chondroitin sulfates A, B, and C, and heparitin sulfate have been reported by Suzuki and Strominger (1) and Suzuki, Threnn, and Strominger (2) to occur in the isthmus region of hen oviduct’. The enzyme preparations used in these studies showed an absolute dependence on addition of the mucopolysaccharid...

The Effects of Regular Fluid Secretion from the Uterus of Laying Hens on the Longevity and Fertilization Ability of Fowl Sperm in the Oviduct

The aim of this study was to examine whether the secreted fluid from the uterus influences the survival and fertilization capacity of fowl sperm in the hen oviduct. Hens with either regular uterine fluid secretion or irregular uterine fluid secretion were artificially inseminated through the transfer of sperm into the uterus. Twenty-four hours after  artificial insemination, 3 hens with regular...

A Rare Case Report of duplicate Vents in a Broiler Breeder Hen (Case Report)

Malformations which occur during the development of the avian body organs can lead to structural and functional abnormalities. Most defects are recognized at hatching, but some go undetected until somewhat later. The cause of the majority of animal congenital malformations is unknown. A significant proportion of congenital malformations of unknown cause are likely to have an important genetic c...
