Acute leukaemia in children--French-American-British (FAB) classification and its relation to clinical features.

چکیده
A retrospective study of 45 patients of acute leukaemia in children (15 years age), in relation to FAB classification, is presented. Acute lymphoblastic leukaemias (ALL) were commoner than acute myeloid leukaemias (AML), with an ALL:AML ratio of 4.63:1. Amongst ALL, L1 was the most frequent type (59%), followed by L2 (35%) and L3 (5.4%), respectively. FAB types M2, M3, M4 and M5 were diagnosed in 2 patients each. An analysis of clinical features in relation to FAB classification is also presented.

French American British (FAB) morphological classification of childhood lymphoblastic leukaemia and its clinical importance.
As part of the Medical Research Council Leukaemia Trial UKALL VIII, 738 unselected children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) had the morphology of their marrow blast cells reviewed by a panel of three haematologists. Ninety four (13%) showed appearances classifiable as type L2 by the French American and British (FAB) cooperative group's criteria, five (0.7%) were typed L3, and the remai...

The measurement of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TDT) activity in leukaemic blasts of 26 cases of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) (13 children less than 14 years, 13 adults greater than 14 years) demonstrated significantly greater activities of the enzyme on a proportion of the adults. The predominant cytological sub-type in the adult patients was L2 (FAB classification) whereas L1...
متن کاملProposals for the classification of the acute leukaemias. French-American-British (FAB) co-operative group.
A uniform system of classification and nomenclature of the acute leukaemias, at present lacking, should permit more accurate recording of the distribution of cases entered into clinical trials, and could provide a reference standard when newly developed cell-surface markers believed to characterize specific cell types are applied to cases of acute leukaemia. Proposals based on conventional morp...
متن کاملCurrent concerns in haematology. 2: Classification of acute leukaemia.
Introduction For the past century the classification of leukaemia has been predominantly clinical and morphological, supplemented in recent decades by the application of cytochemical techniques. During the past five to 10 years major advances in our knowledge of the nature of leukaemia consequent on the application of the techniques of immunology, cytogenetics, and molecular genetics, have take...
متن کاملCytochemical and immunological aspects of the acute lymphocytic leukemias (as related to FAB classification).
The FAB classification of acute leukemias was proposed by a cooperative French-American-British group as an easily applied classification useful for uniform assessment of large clinical therapeutic trials. Although the classification is based on morphological criteria, cytochemical, biochemical, immunological and cytogenetic studies supplement the morphologic criteria for accurate identificatio...
