Manganese chloride is reacted with lithium borohydride in a toluene/dimethylsulfide mixture at room temperature, which yields halide and solvent-free manganese borohydride after extraction with dimethyl-sulfide (DMS) and subsequent removal of residual solvent. This work constitutes the first example of establishing a successful, reproducible solvent-based synthesis route for a pure, crystalline, stable transition metal borohydride. The new polymorph, γ-Mn(BH 4) 2 , is shown to be the manganese counterpart of the zeolite-like compound, γ-Mg(BH 4) 2 (cubic, a = 16.209(1) Å, space group Id3 ¯a). It is verified that large pores (diameter > 6.0 Å) exist in this structure. The solvate, Mn(BH 4) 2 ·1/2S(CH 3) 2 , is subsequently shown to be the analogue of Mg(BH 4) 2 ·1/2S(CH 3) 2. As the structural analogies between Mg(BH 4) 2 and Mn(BH 4) 2 became evident a new polymorph of Mg(BH 4) 2 was identified and termed ζ-Mg(BH 4) 2. ζ-Mg-(BH 4) 2 is the structural counterpart of α-Mn(BH 4) 2. All synthesis products are characterized employing synchrotron radiation-powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis in combination with mass spectroscopy. Thermal analysis reveals the decomposition of Mn(BH 4) 2 to occur at 160 °C, accompanied by a mass loss of 14.8 wt%. A small quantity of the desorbed gaseous species is identified as diborane (ρ m (Mn(BH 4) 2) = 9.5 wt% H 2), while the remaining majority is found to be hydrogen.

متن کاملA 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-1H-benzimidazole-manganese oxide hybrid as a promising structural model for the tyrosine 161/histidine 190-manganese cluster in photosystem II.
In this communication, we report the synthesis, characterization, and electrochemistry of a 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-1H-benzimidazole-manganese oxide hybrid. Our results suggest that this compound is a promising model for the manganese cluster together with tyrosine-161 and histidine-190 in photosystem II of plants, algae and cyanobacteria.
متن کاملSynthesis and characterization of manganese oxide and cobalt oxide nano-structure
The preparation of nanostructure type manganese oxide and cobalt oxide materials with the smallest particle size is reported here. The nanorod manganese oxide and cobalt oxide nanotube were prepared via a sol-gel reaction in reverse micelles from KMnO4 and CoCl2 with respectively source at room-temperature. The structure and surface morphology of the obtained manganese oxide were studied by mea...

The use of the highly sterically demanding Cp(BIG) ligand (Cp(BIG) = C5(4-nBuC6H4)5) and white phosphorus (P4) enables the synthesis of new P-rich derivatives of the rare Pn ligand complexes of manganese. The obtained complexes, [{Cp(BIG)Mn}2(μ,η(5:5)-P5)] (2) and [{Cp(BIG)Mn}2(μ,η(2:2)-P2)2] (3), exhibit the highest number of P atoms in this class of manganese compounds identified by X-ray str...
