The Liar Paradox and Fuzzy Logic

چکیده
Can one extend crisp Peano arithmetic PA by a possibly many-valued predicate Tr(x) saying \x is true" and satisfying the \dequotation schema" ' Tr(') for all sentences '? This problem is investigated in the frame of Lukasiewicz innnitely valued logic.

Computation of Fuzzy Truth Values for The Liar and Related Self-Referential Systems
We study the Liar paradox and related systems of self-referential sentences. Specifically, we consider the problem of assigning consistent fuzzy truth values to systems of self-referential sentences. We show that this problem can be reduced to the solution of a system of nonlinear equations and we prove that, under certain conditions, a solution (i.e. a consistent truth value assignment) always...
متن کاملThe Liar Paradox
This essay delivers a serious message on life, at the core of reasoning, to wit, “I am a liar” selfdestructive infests reasoning to undermine it to fill life with oxymora, then proposes a singing way out in music. This essay is naturally divided into three sections: one, how self-destructive the liar paradox is life-ubiquitous; two, the liar paradox as basic to logic and philosophy; and three, ...
متن کاملFuzzy Does Not Lie!
This paper is meant to be a brief review of the paper The Liar Paradox and Fuzzy Logic. In this review, it is intended to avoid technicality of proofs. However, the basic ideas of the proofs will be underlined. Original article follows afterwards. Background and Introduction Background In order to analyze the present paper The Liar Paradox and Fuzzy Logic ([LP] for short), Peano Arithmetic (PA ...
متن کاملPOSSIBLE WORLDS SEMANTICS AND THE LIAR Reflections on a Problem Posed by Kaplan
In this paper I discuss a paradox, due to David Kaplan, that in his view threatens the use of possible worlds semantics as a model-theoretic framework for intensional logic.1 Kaplan’s paradox starts out from an intuitively reasonable principle that I refer to as the Principle of Plenitude. From this principle he derives a contradiction in what he calls Naive Possible World Theory. Kaplan’s meta...
متن کاملIPM-Isfahan workshop on Various Aspects of Modality
Paradoxes are amazing puzzles in philosophy (and mathematics), and they can be interesting when turned into proofs and theorems (in mathematics and logic). For example, Russell's paradox, which collapsed Frege's foundations of mathematics, is now a classical theorem in set theory, and implies that no set of all sets can exist. Or, as another example, the Liar paradox has turned into Tarski's th...
