Efficient Translation of Network Performance Parameters for Transport of IP Packets over Cell-Switched Subnetworks

چکیده
In this paper we deal with mapping performance-oriented IP services such as Integrated Services (IntServ) or Differentiated Services (DiffServ) onto network performance parameters for cell-switched transport networks, as for example ATM. The impact of translating IP performance parameters into ATM network services is analyzed and the detrimental effects of careless mappings are illustrated. Then, approaches to circumvent these detrimental effects are presented.

متن کاملHigh Speed Networks EFFICIENT SCHEDULING OF VARIABLE-LENGTH IP PACKETS ON HIGH-SPEED SWITCHES*
ATM switches have been proposed as the switching fabric cores of many high-performance IP switches. In this paper, we present an efficient algorithm called IPPIM for scheduling variable-length IP packets on these switches and compare its performance with the original parallel iterative matching (PIM) ATM cell scheduling algorithm. The mean IP packet delays using both the PIM and the IP-PIM sche...
متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
متن کاملPerformance evaluation of TCP over optical burst-switched (OBS) WDM networks
This paper studies the performance of TCP transport protocol over an optical burst-switched (OBS) wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) wide-area network. Typically, an OBS network consists of optical core routers and electronic edge routers connected by WDM links. At the network ingress nodes, IP packets are assembled into bursts that are routed through the core network and disassembled at the...
متن کاملHow Many Wavelengths Do We Really Need? A Study of the Performance Limits of Packet Over Wavelengths
Coupling Internet protocol (IP) routers with wavelengthselective optical crossconnects makes it possible to extend the existing Internet infrastructure to a wavelength-division–multiplexing optical network. Because optical wavelength routing is transparent to IP, one can achieve very high throughput and low delay when packets are made to bypass the IP forwarding process by being switched direct...
