Itree-hydro: Snow Hydrology Update for the Urban Forest Hydrology Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
This article presents snow hydrology updates made to iTree-Hydro, previously called the Urban Forest Effects—Hydrology model. iTree-Hydro Version 1 was a warm climate model developed by the USDA Forest Service to provide a process-based planning tool with robust water quantity and quality predictions given data limitations common to most urban areas. Cold climate hydrology routines presented in this update to iTree-Hydro include: (1) snow interception to simulate the capture of snow by the vegetation canopy, (2) snow unloading to simulate the release of snow triggered by wind, (3) snowmelt to simulate the solid to liquid phase change using a heat budget, and (4) snow sublimation to simulate the solid to gas phase via evaporation. Cold climate hydrology routines were tested with research-grade snow accumulation and weather data for the winter of 1996-1997 at Umpqua National Forest, Oregon. The Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency for open area snow accumulation was 0.77 and the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency for under canopy was 0.91. The USDA Forest Service offers iTreeHydro for urban forest hydrology simulation through iTreetools.org. Mechanistic Simulation of Tree Effects in an Urban Water Balance Model
A semidistributed, physical-based Urban Forest Effects – Hydrology (UFORE-Hydro) model was created to simulate and study tree effects on urban hydrology and guide management of urban runoff at the catchment scale. The model simulates hydrological processes of precipitation, interception, evaporation, infiltration, and runoff using data inputs of weather, elevation, and land cover along with nin...
متن کاملEvaluation of Satellite Images of Snow Cover Areas for Improving Spring Flood in the Hbv-model
For the hydro power companies it is of major importance to know the magnitude of the spring flood. Hence, the amount of snow is crucial for forecast modelling. In mountainous areas with plenty of snow, the meteorological network is often sparse, and they lack direct observations of the snow pack. Therefore, if it is possible to combine satellite snow cover area information with a hydrologic mod...

Information on snow cover and snow properties is an important factor for hydrology and runoff modeling. Frequent updates of snow cover information can help to improve water balance and discharge calculations. Within the frame of Polar View, snow products from multisensoral satellite data are operationally provided to control and update water balance models for large parts of Southern Germany. T...

متن کاملCharacterization of Errors in a Coupled Snow Hydrology–Microwave Emission Model
Traditional approaches to the direct estimation of snow properties from passive microwave remote sensing have been plagued by limitations such as the tendency of estimates to saturate for moderately deep snowpacks and the effects of mixed land cover within remotely sensed pixels. An alternative approach is to assimilate satellite microwave emission observations directly, which requires embeddin...
