چکیده
Pyrogallol[4]arene macrocycles prepared from pyrogallol and n-dodecanal insert in phospholipid bilayers and form conducting pores that undergo reversible switching over a wide range of potentials.

Voltage-dependent hydration and conduction properties of the hydrophobic pore of the mechanosensitive channel of small conductance.
A detailed picture of water and ion properties in small pores is important for understanding the behavior of biological ion channels. Several recent modeling studies have shown that small, hydrophobic pores exclude water and ions even if they are physically large enough to accommodate them, a mechanism called hydrophobic gating. This mechanism has been implicated in the gating of several channe...
متن کاملUsing charge to control the functional properties of self-assembled nanopores in membranes.
Control of function in self-assembled molecular structures is a major challenge in supramolecular chemistry. [ 1–4 ] Ion channels, for instance, are pore-forming nanostructures typically comprising multiple molecular subunits assembled via noncovalent interactions. [ 5 ] These pores function by facilitating a fl ux of ions across the hydrophobic barrier of a lipid bilayer. For over a decade, ma...
متن کاملThe electrical breakdown of cell and lipid membranes: the similarity of phenomenologies.
The current responses of human erythrocyte and L-cell membranes being subject to rectangular voltage pulses of 150-700 mV amplitude and 5 X 10(-3)-10 s duration were recorded by means of the patch-clamp method. The behaviour of planar lipid bilayer membranes of oxidized cholesterol and UO2(2+)-modified bilayers of azolectin in a high electric field was investigated for comparison. The gradual g...
متن کاملTheoretical description of the ion transport across nanopores with titratable fixed charges: analogies between ion channels and synthetic pores.
Recently developed nanometer-sized synthetic pores display several properties so far believed to be distinctive features of a large variety of biological wide ion channels. Thus conductance in the pS-nS range, pH-dependent ion selectivity, fluctuations of current between open and closed states, flux inhibition caused by protons or divalent cations, current rectification, and the ability to perf...
متن کاملSimulation study of the transport properties of ions through ion channels serving as primary components of a nanobiosensor
Ion channels are naturally occurring pores through the proteins that regulate the passage of ions and thus maintain the concentration of ions inside and outside the cell. The ion channels control many physiological functions and they can show selectivity for a specific ion. Ion channels are mostly observed in nerve cells and muscle cells. The influx of ions into cells can be regulated by a gate...
