Symmetric Obstruction Theories and Hilbert Schemes of Points on Threefolds

Recall that in an earlier paper by one of the authors DonaldsonThomas type invariants were expressed as certain weighted Euler characteristics of the moduli space. The Euler characteristic is weighted by a certain canonical Z-valued constructible function on the moduli space. This constructible function associates to any point of the moduli space a certain invariant of the singularity of the space at the point. In the present paper, we evaluate this invariant for the case of a singularity which is an isolated point of a C-action and which admits a symmetric obstruction theory compatible with the C-action. The answer is (−1), where d is the dimension of the Zariski tangent space. We use this result to prove that for any threefold, proper or not, the weighted Euler characteristic of the Hilbert scheme of n points on the threefold is, up to sign, equal to the usual Euler characteristic. For the case of a projective Calabi-Yau threefold, we deduce that the DonaldsonThomas invariant of the Hilbert scheme of n points is, up to sign, equal to the Euler characteristic. This proves a conjecture of Maulik-NekrasovOkounkov-Pandharipande.

Framed Sheaves over Threefolds and Symmetric Obstruction Theories
We note that open moduli spaces of sheaves over local Calabi-Yau surface geometries framed along the divisor at infinity admit symmetric perfect obstruction theories. We calculate the corresponding Donaldson-Thomas weighted Euler characteristics (as well as the topological Euler characteristics). Furthermore, for blowup geometries, we discuss the contribution of exceptional curves. 1.
متن کاملThe Cohomology Rings of Hilbert Schemes via Jack Polynomials
Fundamental and deep connections have been developed in recent years between the geometry of Hilbert schemes X [n] of points on a (quasi-)projective surface X and combinatorics of symmetric functions. Among distinguished classes of symmetric functions, let us mention the monomial symmetric functions, Schur polynomials, Jack polynomials (which depend on a Jack parameter), and Macdonald polynomia...
متن کاملJu n 20 09 The quantum differential equation of the Hilbert scheme of points in the plane
In the study of the quantum cohomology of the Hilbert scheme of points in the plane [11], as well as in the Gromov-Witten/Donaldson-Thomas theories of threefolds [2, 10, 12], certain linear ODEs with remarkable properties arise naturally. These ODEs generalize the Schrödinger equation for the quantum Calogero-Sutherland operator and are the focus of the present paper. Following the tradition in...
متن کاملThe Milnor Fibre of the Pfaffian and the Hilbert Scheme of Four Points on C
We study a natural Hodge module on the Hilbert scheme of four points on affine three-space, which categorifies the Donaldson–Thomas invariant of the Hilbert scheme. We determine the weight filtration on the Hodge module explicitly in terms of intersection cohomology complexes, and compute the E-polynomial of its cohomology. The computations make essential use of a description of the singularity...
متن کاملHilbert schemes of points on a locally planar curve and the Severi strata of its versal deformation
Let C be a locally planar curve. Its versal deformation admits a stratification by the genera of the fibres. The strata are singular; we show that their multiplicities at the central point are determined by the Euler numbers of the Hilbert schemes of points on C. These Euler numbers have made two prior appearances. First, in certain simple cases, they control the contribution of C to the Pandha...
