چکیده

Deploying the new generation ”Internet Protocol” (IPv6) over 802.16-based wireless networks is facing an important challenge as the IEEE 802.16 standard is failing to support IPv6 functionalities. In fact, unlike the other 802 standards, the IEEE 802.16 is based on a point-tomultipoint (PMP) communication model, where no direct connection (at the MAC layer) is possible between two stations, all communications pass through the Base Station. As a result, the 802.16 standard is unable to handle any form of IP multicast (group) communication, and hence it can not sustain the new functionality of IPv6, namely autoconfiguration mechanism, which particularly relies on IP multicast communication. In this paper, we present different architectures to consider when deploying IPv6 over wireless broadband network, such as WiMAX. Also, we point out challenges and solutions related to this deployment, by focusing particularly on solutions proposed by the 16ng IETF group, which aims to establish an Internet RFC on deploying IPv6 over IEEE 802.16.

An Overview of Group Key Management Issues in IEEE 802.16e Networks

The computer industry has defined the IEEE 802.16 family of standards that will enable mobile devices to access a broadband network as an alternative to digital subscriber line technology. As the mobile devices join and leave a network, security measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the network against unauthorized usage by encryption and group key management. IEEE 802.16e uses Multica...

Performance Analysis of QoS in PMP Mode WiMax Networks

IEEE 802.16 standard supports two different topologies: point to multipoint (PMP) and Mesh. In this paper, a QoS mechanism for point to multipoint of IEEE 802.16 and BS scheduler for PMP Mode is proposed. This paper also describes quality of service over WiMAX networks. Average WiMAX delay, Average WiMAX load and Average WiMAX throughput at base station is analyzed and compared by applying diff...

Transmission of IPv6 via the IPv6 Convergence Sublayer over IEEE 802.16 Networks

IEEE Std 802.16 is an air interface specification for fixed and mobile Broadband Wireless Access Systems. Service-specific convergence sublayers to which upper-layer protocols interface are a part of the IEEE 802.16 MAC (Medium Access Control). The Packet convergence sublayer (CS) is used for the transport of all packetbased protocols such as Internet Protocol (IP) and IEEE 802.3 LAN/MAN CSMA/C...
