GREICE OLIVEIRA: Influence of tooth age and application time on the microtensile bond strengths of different adhesive systems to dentin. (Under the direction of André V. Ritter) This study evaluated the effect of tooth age and application time on the microtensile bond strengths (µTBS) of different adhesives to dentin. One-hundred twenty intact human teeth were mechanically ground to expose mid-coronal dentin and randomized to three groups (n=40) according to subject's age in years: 15-25, 35-45, and ≥55. Within each group, specimens were further randomized to 8 experimental subgroups according to adhesive (etch-and-rinse 3-and 2-step; self-etch 2-and 1-step) and application time (instructions vs. extended). Composite resin was applied to the treated surfaces and after storage for 24 hours all specimens were processed for µTBS testing. Data were analyzed by factorial ANOVA and post-hoc tests (p=0.05). µTBS values ranged from 10.9 MPa (2-step self-etch, extended application time, age group 15-25) to 50.7 MPa (1-step self-etch, extended application time, age group ≥55). Tooth age and application time had no significant effect on µTBS of the adhesives tested.

OBJECTIVES To investigate the effect of dentin moisture degree and air-drying time on dentin-bond strength of two different one-step self-etching adhesive systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-four human third molars were used for microtensile bond strength testing of G-Bond and Clearfil S(3) Bond. The dentin surface was either blot-dried or air-dried before applying these adhesive agents. Af...
متن کاملEffect of different synthetic matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors on composite-dentin microtensile bond strength durability
Background and Aims: Despite patient’s demand increased for tooth color restorations, the stable bond between dentin and composite is a challenge in dentistry. Dentin protease activation is responsible for dentin-resin bond failure. The aim of this study was to determine the best pretreatment agent to inhibit matrix metalloproteinase and increase resin-dentin bond durability. Materials and Met...

Background and Aim: Recurrent caries and low bond strength are the main causes of composite restorations failure. This study sought to assess the effect of chlorhexidine (CHX) on micro-shear bond strength (MSBS) to dentin of a fourth generation adhesive system and a universal bonding agent after aging. Materials and Methods: This in vitro study used 32 extracted third molars and 3-5mm thick de...

OBJECTIVE The bond strength of adhesives in irrigated dentin behaves differently over time. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of long-term water storage and thermocycling on the microtensile bond strength of adhesive systems to dentin irrigated with endodontic solutions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty human molars were used after removal of the occlusal portion and exposure of ...
