چکیده

Cyrany J, Kopáčová M, Rejchrt S, Krajina A, Bureš J. Gastric arterial bleeding secondary to chronic occlusion of the splenic artery. Folia Gastroenterol Hepatol 2004; 2 (2): 92 98. Abstract. The authors present exceptional case of life threatening bleeding from fundic arterial collaterals in the patient with atherosclerotic chronic occlusion of the splenic artery. Haemostasis was achieved by endoscopic injection of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, which was documented by angiography. The course was complicated by splenic embolism. Recurrence of bleeding was not observed during a nine-month follow-up period. That was why no splenectomy was performed until now. The case report illustrates that arteries supplying the spleen in case of splenic artery occlusion can be a source of severe bleeding. These collaterals can be interrupted endoscopically with the risk of arterial embolism in the coeliac trunk region.

Emergency splenic arterial embolization for massive variceal bleeding in liver recipient with left-sided portal hypertension.

Splenic vein thrombosis with gastric variceal bleeding is difficult to manage, and splenectomy may be necessary to stop variceal bleeding. The authors report the case of a post-orthotopic liver transplant patient with bleeding gastric varices secondary to splenic vein thrombosis treated by partial splenic artery embolization. Successful embolization was performed via transcatheter approach depo...

Massive variceal bleeding secondary to splenic vein thrombosis successfully treated with splenic artery embolization: a case report

INTRODUCTION Splenic vein thrombosis results in localized portal hypertension called sinistral portal hypertension, which may also lead to massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Symptomatic sinistral portal hypertension is usually best treated by splenectomy, but interventional radiological techniques are safe and effective alternatives in the management of a massive hemorrhage, particularly ...

Splenic vein thrombosis is a relatively common finding in pancreatitis. Gastric variceal bleeding is a life-threatening complication of splenic vein thrombosis, resulting from increased blood flow to short gastric vein. Traditionally, splenectomy is considered the treatment of choice. However, surgery in necrotizing pancreatitis is dangerous, because of severe inflammation, adhesion, and bleedi...
