Approaches to Implementing Clinical Decision Support in Commercial Hospital Information Systems using JAVA/CORBA/XML

چکیده
Introduction. It is widely accepted that computer-based decision support has beneficial impacts in many ways to healthcare providers and patients in order to improve clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness. Direct integration of knowledge-based functions (KBF) in hospital information systems (HIS) has proven to be more successful than standa-lone systems.' Thus the aim of this study was to exemplarily embed an existing, proven standalone scoring system for acute abdominal pain into two different commercial hospital information systems in three university hospitals. This decision support has to be platform-independent and easily adaptable to different hospital settings and hospital information systems, using distributed, component-based and scalable information sources. Methods. After an initial survey among physicians (n=102), which showed that most of them preferred having decision aids available within a hospital information system2, we performed a workflow-based process analysis3 of the surgical outpatient ward. Subsequently the software was designed according to the following major comerstones (see figure 1): (D) The HIS invokes a knowledge based system manager (KBM) out of the electronic patient record with a HIS-specific invoking mechanism. (0) The KBM retrieves data from the HIS database (HIS DB), using a HIS-specific data access compo

Barriers and strategies in Implementing Clinical Decision Support System in Hospitals: A Case Study in Iran
Introduction: Most modern medical issues are inherently complicated and accurate decisions are not always likely to be made based on logical reasons. Furthermore, the huge volume of information relevant to a simple diagnostic area makes this decision making even more troublesome. Hence, with the advent of technology, there is an ever increasing need for the Clinical Decision Support System (CDS...
متن کاملAn Environment for Workflow Applications on Wide-Area Distributed Systems
Workflow techniques are emerging as an important approach for the specification and management of complex processing tasks. This approach is especially powerful for utilising distributed data and processing resources in widely-distributed heterogeneous systems. We describe our DISCWorld distributed workflow environment for composing complex processing chains, which are specified as a directed a...

Potential users of Health Information Systems include General Practioners, Pharmacists, Hospital Staff, Community Nurses and patients. Ideally an infrastructure for such a system will support the integration of data and processing as well as a diverse range of user interface technologies and devices. We describe a prototype system that uses a range of current Java-based object-oriented technolo...
متن کاملApplication of Rough Set Theory in Data Mining for Decision Support Systems (DSSs)
Decision support systems (DSSs) are prevalent information systems for decision making in many competitive business environments. In a DSS, decision making process is intimately related to some factors which determine the quality of information systems and their related products. Traditional approaches to data analysis usually cannot be implemented in sophisticated Companies, where managers ne...
متن کاملUsing CORBA to integrate manufacturing cells to a virtual enterprise
It is critical in today’s enterprises that manufacturing facilities are not isolated from design, planning, and other business activities and that information flows easily and bidirectionally between these activities. It is also important and cost-effective that COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) software, databases, and corporate legacy codes are well integrated in the information architecture. F...
