A neoclassical interpretation of momentum

چکیده
The neoclassical theory of investment implies that expected stock returns are tied with the expected marginal benefit of investment divided by the marginal cost of investment. Winners have higher expected growth and expected marginal productivity (two major components of the marginal benefit of investment), and earn higher expected stock returns than losers. The investment model succeeds in capturing average momentum profits, reversal of momentum in long horizons, long-run risks in momentum, and the interaction of momentum with several firm characteristics. However, the model fails to reproduce the procyclicality of momentum as well as its negative interaction with bookto-market equity. Published by Elsevier B.V.

TH-C/P8-44 Interaction between Turbulence and Neoclassical Dynamics and Its Effect on Tokamak Transport: Gyrokinetic Simulations and Theory
Abstract. The relationship between momentum and energy transport is investigated with focus on understanding recent experimental observations, using global gyrokinetic simulations with proper coupling between turbulence and neoclassical dynamics. First, a large inward flux of toroidal momentum is found robustly in the post saturation phase of ion temperature gradient (ITG) turbulence. As a cons...
متن کاملMomentum Transport in Electron-Dominated Spherical Torus Plasmas
The National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) operates between 0.35 and 0.55 T, which, when coupled to up to 7 MW of neutral beam injection, leads to central rotation velocities in excess of 300 km/s and ExB shearing rates up to 1 MHz. This level of ExB shear can be up to a factor of five greater than typical linear growth rates of long-wavelength ion (e.g., ITG) modes, at least partially supp...
متن کاملTurbulent momentum transport due to neoclassical flows
Intrinsic toroidal rotation in a tokamak can be driven by turbulent momentum transport due to neoclassical flow effects breaking a symmetry of turbulence. In this paper we categorize the contributions due to neoclassical effects to the turbulent momentum transport, and evaluate each contribution using gyrokinetic simulations. We find that the relative importance of each contribution changes wit...
متن کاملGyrokinetic studies on turbulence-driven and neoclassical nondiffusive toroidal-momentum transport and the effect of residual fluctuations in strong E x B shear.
A significant inward flux of toroidal momentum is found in global gyrokinetic simulations of ion temperature gradient turbulence, leading to core plasma rotation spin-up. The underlying mechanism is identified to be the generation of residual stress due to the k parallel symmetry breaking induced by global quasistationary zonal flow shear. Simulations also show a significant off-diagonal elemen...
متن کاملInterpreting Statistical Confidence
The traditional interpretation of statistical confidence is mathematically descriptive. As such it provides little guidance for decision making. Three alternate interpretations of confidence are presented: the Bayesian, the pragmatic and one proposed by the author labeled herein as the neoclassical. Each alternate explanation argues that in some way a confidence interval and a numerically equiv...
