Differential assessment of retrograde amnesia produced by Hypothermia following one-trial avoidance conditioning
نویسنده
چکیده
Two different measures of the retention of avoidance conditioning, frequently used in the investigation of retrograde anmesia (RA), were examined. Rats were given a single training trial on either passive or active avoidance in a conventional black-white discrimination apparatus and step•through latencies were recorded. Task sequence, footshock and hypothermia were experimentally varied across eight groups of subjects. Each S was returned to the experimental apparatus 24 hours after training and given retention tests on both passive and active avoidance tasks. Test trial latencies failed to demonstrate any retention deficits attributable to RA, and both passive and active avoidance test latencies significantly increased. The results were interpreted in terms of the suppression o.f behavior resulting from conditioned emotionality, and serious questions were raised concerning the validity of singletrial avoidance latency measures.

Environmental control of ECS-produced retrograde amnesia in goldfish. PHYSIOL. BEHAV. The retrograde amnestic effect of ECS can be enhanced by exposing the goldfish to the intertrial environment for 25 mm just prior to administration of the ECS. As the interval between training and the ECS is increased, the amnesm produced by the environment-ECS interaction takes longer to develop. The environm...
متن کاملFurther on the effects of ether anesthesia following one-trial discriminated avoidance learningl
Ether anesthesia following one-trial passive avoidance conditioning interferes with the acquisition of the avoidance response (Abt, Essman, & Jarvik, 1961). The amount of the interference decreases as the interval between learning (footshock) and administration of ether increases (Alpern & Kimble, 1967; Pearlman, 1966). These results are typically interpreted to mean that ether disrupts memory ...

One hundred and ninety-nine children received lorazepam 0.05 mg kg-1 or trimeprazine 3 mg kg-1 as oral premedication in a double-blind trial. Lorazepam proved more palatable and produced a cheerful demeanour, but possessed no significant advantages on overall assessment before surgery. Following operation, restlessness with vomiting, and evidence of retrograde amnesia occurred more frequently w...
متن کاملTemporally graded, context-specific retrograde amnesia and its alleviation by context preexposure: effects of postconditioning exposures to morphine in the rat.
Five experiments studied retrograde impairments in Pavlovian fear conditioning following prolonged exposure to the opioid receptor agonist morphine. Injections of morphine commencing 1-7 days but not 14 days after conditioning produced amnesia for that conditioning episode. This amnesia was (a) selective such that morphine impaired freezing to the conditioning context but not to the auditory co...
متن کاملProteome Analysis of Rat Hippocampus Following Morphine-induced Amnesia and State-dependent Learning
Morphine’s effects on learning and memory processes are well known to depend on synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus. Whereas the role of the hippocampus in morphine-induced amnesia and state-dependent learning is established, the biochemical and molecular mechanisms underlying these processes are poorly understood. The present study intended to investigate whether administration of morphine ...
