Intracranial Cavernomas and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery
نویسنده
چکیده
Microsurgical resection, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), and conservative management are three methods of treatment for intracranial cavernomas. However if left untreated, cavernomas may lead to intracerebral hemorrhage, seizures, focal neurologic deficits, or headaches. Deciding how to manage a cavernoma patient depends on a multitude factors. While microsurgery is the standard treatment for intracranial cavernomas, conservative treatment should be the choice for the patients without new or progressive neurological deficits and two or more documented hemorrhages and with seizure responsive to the medical treatment. For the others the treatment is primarily surgical for the cases with non-eloquent locations and the results have been best where complete excisions is achieved. Radiosurgery, especially Gamma Knife (GK) usage is an important alternative for treatment of deep and eloquent area located cavernomas and for the patients who do not accept surgical treatment.

Long-Term Results of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for Intracranial Meningioma
BACKGROUND The predominant treatment modality for meningioma is surgical resection. However, gamma knife radiosurgery is also an important treatment modality for meningioma that is small or cannot be completely removed because of its location. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness and long-term results of radiosurgical treatment for meningioma in our institution. METHODS We studied 62...
متن کاملStereotaxic angiography in gamma knife radiosurgery of intracranial arteriovenous malformations.
Gamma knife radiosurgery is an effective alternative to embolization or microsurgical removal of small arteriovenous malformations, particularly in eloquent areas of brain tissue. Stereotaxic angiography is a useful diagnostic and targeting adjunct to gamma knife radiosurgery, and the authors present their experience (1,100 patients) with methods and technique, and show how the nidus of the art...

BACKGROUND Intracranial vascular complications following radiosurgery are extremely rare. CASE DESCRIPTION We report a case of stenosis in the internal carotid artery 5 years after gamma knife radiosurgery for a recurrent pituitary adenoma. Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty was performed successfully with anatomical and functional improvement. CONCLUSION These results suggested the impo...
متن کاملEmbolization with Gamma Knife Radiosurgery of Giant Intracranial Arteriovenous Malformations.
AIM Giant arteriovenous malformations (i.e., those greater than 6 cm maximum diameter or volume > 33 cc) are difficult to treat and often carry higher treatment morbidity and mortality rates. In our study, we reviewed the angiographic results and clinical outcomes for 11 patients with giant arteriovenous malformations who were treated between 1994 and 2012. MATERIAL AND METHODS The patients s...
متن کاملLong term effects of Gamma knife Radiosurgery for treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformations
Abstract Background: The Gamma Knife Radiosurgery (GKR) is an established management option for Cerebral Ar-teriovenous Malformations (AVMS). Therapeutic benefits of radiosurgery for arteriovenous malformations are complete obliteration of nidus with minimal neurological deficit. Methods: Radiosurgery was performed between February 2003 and April 2010 at Kamraniye day clinic, Teh-ran, Iran, us...
