Bubble growth as a detonation.
نویسنده
چکیده
In the case of spherically symmetric chemical burning, only very special hydrodynamical detonation solutions exist. These are the so called Jouguet detonations, in which the burning front moves at sound velocity with respect to the burnt matter. Usually it is believed that the situation is similar in the case of bubble growth in cosmological phase transitions. In this paper it is shown that actually a much larger class of detonation solutions exists in cosmological phase transitions. PACS numbers: 98.80.Cq, 47.75.+f ∗email: mlaine@finuhcb

EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF BLAST WAVE PARAMETERS IN UNDERWATER EXPLOSION OF HEXOGEN CHARGES
Behavior of blast wave in underwater explosion is of interest to metal forming community and ship designers. Underwater detonation is, also a potential hazard to the water intakes or a plant spent fuel pool. In this paper, some techniques for calculating free-field blast parameters such as pressure and impulse in underwater explosion and prediction of bubble pulsation parameters are presented a...

⋆ e-mail: [email protected]. † SSC Fellow ‡ e-mail: [email protected] § Presidential Young Investigator and Sloan Foundation Fellow Bubbles in a first-order electroweak phase transition are nucleated with radii R0 and expand with velocity v. If v is subsonic, a bubble becomes unstable to non-spherical perturbations when its radius is roughly 104 R0. These perturbations accelerate the ...
متن کاملType Ia Supernova Explosion: Gravitationally Confined Detonation
We present a new mechanism for Type Ia supernova explosions in massive white dwarfs. The proposed scenario follows from relaxing the assumption of symmetry in the model and involves a detonation created in an unconfined environment. The explosion begins with an essentially central ignition of stellar material initiating a deflagration. This deflagration results in the formation of a buoyantly-d...
متن کاملHydrodynamic detonation instability in electroweak and QCD phase transitions.
The hydrodynamic stability of deflagration and detonation bubbles for a first order electroweak and QCD phase transition has been discussed recently with the suggestion that detonations are stable. We examine here the case of a detonation more carefully. We find that in front of the bubble wall perturbations do not grow with time, but behind the wall modes exist which grow exponentially. We bri...
متن کاملExperimental investigation of bubble growth and detachment in stagnant liquid column using image – based analysis
An experimental study has been carried out to characterize bubble formation, growth, and detachment mechanisms in a stagnant liquid column. Both bubble frequency and bubble detachment size were measured in different gas flow rates, injector diameters and orientations, submergence height, and liquid properties. Experiments were performed for air injection flow rate ranges between 200 mlph and 12...
