چکیده

The spectrophotometric and microbiological assay methods used for the determination of ampicillin levels in ampicillin/cloxacillin combinations were compared. A total of 24 samples of ampicillin/cloxacillin suspensions from 8 batches and 3 companies (B2, D and E) were assayed for their ampicillin content levels using the Spectrophotometric assay method. Infra-red (IR) Spectroscopy confirmed the presence of ampicillin in all the samples and the results obtained showed that the samples had a wide range of amounts of ampicillin which compared favourably w ith the microbiological assay results of the same products. All the products assayed had ampicillin content within acceptable ranges of the BP and USP. Spectrophotometric assay is recommended for the quick determination of the levels of ampicillin in their combinations with cloxacillin.

Simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of ampicillin and penicillin in human plasma using multivariate calibration

An analytical methodology based on spectrophotometric and partial least squares (PLS) algorithm for thesimultaneous determination of ampicillin and penicillin in human plasma was developed and validated. Themultivariate model was developed as a binary calibration model and it was built and validated with anindependent set of synthesis and real samples in presence of matrix. It is shown how a de...

The Stability Studies of Penicillin and Ampicillin following ?-Irradiation in the Solid State

The effect of 10 and 25 kGy ?-irradiation on penicillin G plus procaine and sodium ampicillin has been assessed by different chemical and microbiological analytical methods. According to the chemical results obtained, the antibiotics showed a slight reduction in doses applied but the microbiological assays revealed that the activity of irradiated antibiotics did not reduce. Microbiological stud...

Effect of Cloxacillin Concentration in Ampiclox on the Suspectibility of some Clinical Bacteria

Synergistic antimicrobial effect of various ratios of ampicillin/cloxacillin combinations were investigated on susceptible clinical bacterial isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli and Proteus spp. Agar diffusion method was employed in the study to determine the potency of the varying ratios of ampicillin/cloxacillin combination. Variation in the zone diameters of...
