چکیده

Introduction Medical data is often stored in the form of two dimensional images, detailed slices of sections of the body. Images representing the interior can be obtained using a number of technologies such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer aided topography (CAT) and ultrasound. Many forms of 3D images are sampled from two dimensional slices. Medical data stored as sets of slices can be used to generate a three dimensional representation of the data, which can then be used to easily visualise and study this large collection of data. The finite element method (FEM) has a wide range of application in simulating a volume (or an area) subjected to external forces. These can be used in conjunction with the 3D representations of the medical data to produce accurate simulations of physical properties of the data. Aims The aim of this project is to produce a system that will allow the user to specify a set of slices, which will then be used, by the system, to produce a volumetric mesh representation of the data.
