Spin up and phase fluctuations in the timing of the accreting millisecond pulsar XTE J 1807 – 294

چکیده
We performed a timing analysis of the 2003 outburst of the accreting X-ray millisecond pulsar XTE J1807–294 observed by RXTE. Using recently refined orbital parameters we report for the first time a precise estimate of the spin frequency and of the spin frequency derivative. The phase delays of the pulse profile show a strong erratic behavior superposed to what appears as a global spin-up trend. The erratic behavior of the pulse phases is strongly related to rapid variations of the light curve, making it very difficult to fit these phase delays with a simple law. As in previous cases, we have therefore analyzed separately the phase delays of the first harmonic and of the second harmonic of the spin frequency, finding that the phases of the second harmonic are far less affected by the erratic behavior. In the hypothesis that the second harmonic pulse phase delays are a good tracer of the spin frequency evolution we give for the first time a estimation of the spin frequency derivative in this source. The source shows a clear spin-up of ν̇ = 2.5(7)×10 Hz sec (1 σ confidence level). The largest source of uncertainty in the value of the spin-up rate is given by the uncertainties on the source position in the sky. We discuss this systematics on the spin frequency and its derivative. Xmm-newton Observation of the 5.25 Ms Transient Millisecond Pulsar Xte J1807–294 in Outburst
We report on the results obtained for the millisecond transient X–ray pulsar XTE J1807–294 in a 40 min orbital period system, based on an XMM-Newton ToO observation carried out during March 2003. The source was found at a luminosity level of about 2× 10 erg s in the 0.5–10 keV range (assuming a distance of 8 kpc). We confirm the presence of the 5.25 ms pulsations (after accounting for the orbit...
متن کاملDiscovery of kHz QPOs and shifted frequency correlations in the accreting millisecond pulsar XTE J1807–294
We report the discovery of twin kHz QPOs in the X ray flux of XTE J1807– 294, the fourth accreting millisecond pulsar (AMP). This is the second AMP exhibiting twin kHz QPOs. In contrast to the first case, SAX J1808.4–3658, the frequency separation ∆ν between the kHz QPOs is consistent with the pulse frequency (190.6 Hz), not with half that value, confirming for the first time from pulsation mea...
متن کاملAccreting millisecond pulsars: one on each hand
We report on the X-ray aperiodic timing analysis of two accreting millisecond pulsars: XTE J1807–294 and IGR J00291+5934. On the one hand, we discovered in XTE J1807–294 seven pairs of simultaneous kilohertz quasi-periodic oscillations (kHz QPOs) separated in frequency by nearly the spin frequency of the neutron star. This confirms the suspected dichotomy in the frequency separation of kHz QPOs...
متن کاملINTEGRAL spectroscopy of the accreting millisecond pulsar XTE J1807–294 in outburst
The fourth transient accreting millisecond pulsar XTE J1807–294 was observed during its February/March 2003 outburst by INTEGRAL, partly simultaneously with the XMM-Newton and RXTE satellites. We present here the first study of the 0.5–200 keV broad-band spectra of the source. On February 28, the source spectrum was consistent with thermal Comptonization by electrons of temperature ∼ 40 keV, co...
متن کاملCoherence of Burst Oscillations and Accretion-powered Pulsations in the Accreting Millisecond Pulsar Xte J1814-338
X-ray timing of the accretion-powered pulsations during the 2003 outburst of the accreting millisecond pulsar XTE J1814-338 has revealed variation in the pulse time of arrival residuals. These can be interpreted in several ways, including spin-down and wandering of the fuel impact point around the magnetic pole. In this Letter we show that the burst oscillations of this source are coherent with...
