Isokinetic Shoulder Extension Torque and Work Values of Competitive Swimmers
نویسندگان
چکیده
The aim of the present study was to analyze isokinetic torque production during shoulder extension in competitive swimmers. Nine male competitive swimmers were evaluated during concentric shoulder extension at 60°·s -1 on prone position for both upper limbs. The data suggest that competitive swimmers present asymmetry for peak torque and symmetry for peak torque angle and work during shoulder extensor torque angle curve.

Knee Muscles Isokinetic Evaluation after a Six-Month Regular Combined Swim and Dry-Land Strength Training Period in Adolescent Competitive Swimmers
Previous studies demonstrated significant increases in the shoulder internal rotators' peak torque values and unilateral muscular imbalances of the shoulder rotators after a competitive swim period. However, there are no similar data concerning the knee muscles. The purpose of the current study was to examine the effects of a six-month training period on knee flexor and extensor peak torque val...

Clinicians frequently assume the uninjured extremity can be used as a predictor of preinjury strength for return of the injured extremity to a normal state during rehabilitation. The purpose of this study was to examine differences in bilateral isokinetic peak torque (PT) at 60 and 180 O/sec, and torque acceleration energy (TAE), average power (AP), and total work (MI) at 180 degrees /sec durin...
متن کاملDoes a water-training macrocycle really create imbalances in swimmers' shoulder rotator muscles?
The continuous execution of swimming techniques may cause muscle imbalances in shoulder rotators leading to injury. However, there is a lack of published research studies on this topic. The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of a competitive swim period on the shoulder rotator-cuff balance in young swimmers. A randomized controlled pretest-posttest design was used, with two measurem...
متن کاملShoulder rotator cuff balance, strength, and endurance in young swimmers during a competitive season.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of a competitive swim season on the strength, balance, and endurance of shoulder rotator cuff muscles in young swimmers. A repeated measures design was used with 3 measurements performed during the swim season. A swimmers group (n = 20) of young men with no dry land training and a sedentary group (n = 16) of male students with the same charac...
متن کاملIsokinetic dynamometry on the internal rotator and adductor muscles of the swimmers’ shoulders: no differences between asymmetrical and symmetrical swimming strokes
OBJECTIVE: In this study, we compare muscular strength of the internal rotators and adductors of the shoulder between asymmetrical (backstroke and freestyle) and symmetrical (breaststroke and butterfly) swimming strokes. METHOD: We evaluated: shoulders of (a) asymmetrical swimmers (aged 21.8 ^ 3.8 years), (b) symmetrical swimmers (aged 20.3 ^ 4.5 years), (c) recreational swimmers (aged 24.5 ^ 4...
