We propose a generic dynamic call admission scheme for VBR and ABR tra c whose aim is to reduce the blocking rate for VBR calls at the expense of a higher blocking rate for ABR calls. Our scheme is generic because it builds up on a pre-existing static scheme, e.g., one based on a simple notion of e ective bandwidth.

Dynamic Call Admission Control with Joint Connection-level and Packet-level QoS Support in Wireless Multimedia Networks
In this paper, we investigate joint provision of connection-level QoS (in terms of the new call blocking probability and the handoff dropping probability) and packet-level QoS (in terms of the delay and packet loss probability). A dynamic call admission control (CAC) scheme for realistic wireless multimedia VBR traffic is presented. The proposed CAC scheme can optimize the packet-level QoS unde...
متن کاملOn Priority Scheduling Algorithm at ATM Switches with Multi-Class Output Buffers
In this paper, we present a priority scheduling algorithm at ATM switches with multi-class output buffers in which the service rate of each class buffer is dynamically adjusted. The service rate is computed periodically by a control scheme. We derive the design formulas of the control scheme to ensure that each class buffer occupancy converges to its desired operating point related to QoS requi...
متن کاملA Two-Threshold Guard Channel Scheme for Minimizing Blocking Probability in Communication Networks
In this paper, we consider the call admission problem in cellular network with two classes of voice users. In the first part of paper, we introduce a two-threshold guard channel policy and study its limiting behavior under the stationary traffic. Then we give an algorithm for finding the optimal number of guard channels. In the second part of this paper, we give an algorithm, which minimizes th...
متن کاملCall Admission Control and Routing for Integrated CBR/VBR and ABR Services: A Markov Decision Approach
In this paper we study the Call Admission Control (CAC) and routing issue for ATM networks which carry integrated CBR/VBR and ABR traffic. The integration of CBR/VBR and ABR traffic is assumed to be based on the max-min fairness criterion. The CAC and routing task is formulated as a Markov decision problem (MDP) where the objective is to maximize the revenue from carried calls. The MDP is solve...
متن کاملDynamic bandwidth allocation with optimal number of renegotiations in ATM networks
This paper introduces a scheme for online dynamic bandwidth allocation for variable bit rate (VBR) traffic over ATM networks. The presented method determines the optimum bandwidth renegotiation time and bandwidth amount to allocate to VBR traffic source by minimizing predefined cost functions. Traffic rate predictor designed by wavelets is provided as feedback to the system. The results show th...
