High-resolution weather and air quality forecasts for Zeeland, the Netherlands
نویسنده
چکیده
ARGOSS provides daily high-resolution weather and air quality forecasts for the province of Zeeland, the Netherlands. Zeeland covers an area of approximately 50x50 km with several water bodies, bordering the North Sea. To properly represent the land-water boundaries and to simulate the associated weather effects, a spatial resolution of 1 km is required. The abstract presents the operational ARGOSS model setup where WRF is used to drive the Chimére chemistry-transport model. Two experiments designed to address the problem of a cold model start are described. A few related validation results are also presented comparing the performance of 48-hour WRF forecasts to local ground observations (SYNOP) and KNMI HIRLAM forecasts.

Capabilities of data assimilation in correcting sea surface temperature in the Persian Gulf
Predicting the quality of water and air is a particular challenge for forecasting systems that support them. In order to represent the small-scale phenomena, a high-resolution model needs accurate capture of air and sea circulations, significant for forecasting environmental pollution. Data assimilation is one of the state of the art methods to be used for this purpose. Due to the importance of...

The first of the next-generation series of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-R) is scheduled for launch in 2015. The new series of GOES will not have an infrared (IR) sounder dedicated to acquiring high-vertical-resolution atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles. High-spectral-resolution sensors have a much greater vertical-resolving power of temperature, moistur...
متن کاملSimulation of Grape Downy Mildew Development Across Geographic Areas Based on Mesoscale Weather Data Using Supercomputer
Weather data for disease forecasts are usually derived from automated weather stations (AWS) that may be dispersed across a region in an irregular pattern. We have developed an alternative method to simulate local scale, high-resolution weather and plant disease in a grid pattern. The system incorporates a simplified mesoscale boundary layer model, LAWSS, for estimating local conditions such as...
