During the last five years, a number of papers have been published on the statistics of in vitro toxicological assays. Some were directed to the design and analysis of selected single assays (16), including an overview report on mutagenicity studies (7) and recommendations for regulatory purposes (8). Others referred to validation studies, frequently performed as interlaboratory studies (912).
