چکیده

It is cited at the anatomical literature that the Abductor digiti minimi muscle can be composed by one or more muscular beams (Williams et al., 1995; Murata et al., 2004), being more found presenting only one beam, as described by Testut (1911) and schematized in pictures by other authors (Grant, 1948; Testut & Latarjet, 1959; Gray, 1977; Lockhart et al., 1983; Woodburne, 1984). However, some authors cite the division in two portions as very frequent (Neto et al., 1984; Gardner et al., 1971; Williams et al.; Murata et al.). According to Neto et al. the two muscular beams appear joined, in its proximal insertion on the pisiforme bone, and they are separated in its extension, well delimited, receiving the denomination, suggested by these authors, of lateral muscular beam, the most superficial, and medial muscular beam, the deepest.

Accessory Abductor Digiti Minimi Muscle: A Potential Cause of Ulnar Neuropathy at Wrist

Ulnar nerve compression at wrist is manifested either pathologically due to ganglia or neoplasms, or anatomically by the presence of accessory muscles in the hypothenar region. Accessory abductor digiti minimi muscle is an additional muscle encountered rarely in the wrist; presence of which causes high risk of ulnar neuropathy. We report here a case of unilateral accessory abductor digiti minim...

Distribution of electrophysiological abnormality in Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome.

OBJECTIVE To assess the distribution of electrophysiological abnormality in Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) to identify the most sensitive muscle to use in routine examination. METHODS Surface recorded compound muscle action potential (CMAP) amplitudes were made from abductor digiti minimi, abductor pollicis brevis, anconeus, biceps brachii, and trapezius in 10 patients with LEMS. Th...

Anatomical Description of a Variant Abductor Digiti Minimi Accessorious Muscle and Its Clinical Correlation with Ulnar Neurovascular Entrapment Syndrome

Variations of the abductor digiti minimi muscle are a rare occurrence as compared to anomalous thenar musculature. Surgico-anatomical basis of such accessory muscular slips should be discussed in detail. This case report presents a rare bilateral existence of accessory slips of abductor digiti minimi originating from the antebrachial fascia and flexor retinaculum in a male cadaver. Hypertrophy ...

Accessory Abductor Digiti Minimi - A Case Report

The accessory ADM is the most common anomaly among all the accessory hypothenar muscles , with a prevalence of 24%, and present bilaterally in 50% of the cases . During routine dissection of undergraduates we have come across the presence of this accessory muscle in the wrist when the carpal tunnel is opened. This presents with Abductor Digiti Minimi (ADM) muscle bilaterally , involving ulnar a...

Revista Anatomy 10-3 Diciembre

In human beings, the muscles of the sole of the foot are known to exhibit variations. During routine cadaveric dissection, an anomalous attachment of the flexor digiti minimi muscle was observed on both sides of a 55 year male cadaver. The flexor digiti minimi muscle had its usual origin from the plantar surface of base of the fifth metatarsal bone and the sheath of the peroneus longus muscle a...
