An implementation of collaborative adaptation of cognitive radio parameters using an ontology and policy based approach

چکیده
The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate the feasibility of the ontology and policy based approach to realize collaborative, automatic adaptation of cognitive radio parameters in the transmitter and receiver. The ontology and policy based approach features the following three aspects. First, all the internal and external information of the radio is represented in the Web Ontology Language (OWL). The transmitter and receiver share the same core ontology and thus can communicate with each other using this common language. Second, the policy rules are written in a declarative form and interpreted by a reasoner. Third, in order to exchange the OWL represented information between the radios, we adopt a more flexible signaling plan, which is different than the conventional protocol-predefined signaling plan, i.e. the control messages are added to an extendable payload, rather than embedded in the predefined protocol-dependent header or trailer. The paper discusses the implementation and shows some examples of radio behaviors resulting from the execution of the policies.

An Evaluation of Costs and Benefits of an Ontology and Policy Based Cognitive Radio
Cognitive radio is expected to have the capability to sense the changes of the environment and adapt its communications parameters accordingly. Ideally, adaptation shall be done autonomously and collaboratively. In [1], we proposed an ontology and policy based approach to enable autonomous and collaborative adaptation of cognitive radio parameters. In this approach, an ontology is developed to ...
متن کاملCollaborative Adaptation of Cognitive Radio Parameters Using Ontology and Policy Approach
Cognitive radio is expected to be aware of the changing channel environment and adjust the services and resources accordingly by changing the radio's transmission parameters. In order to achieve automatic adaptation, the radio must have the ability to reason about the facts from the environment or from other radios/nodes, i.e. to infer implicit knowledge from the explicitly represented knowledg...
متن کاملSecure Collaborative Spectrum Sensing in the Presence of Primary User Emulation Attack in Cognitive Radio Networks
Collaborative Spectrum Sensing (CSS) is an effective approach to improve the detection performance in Cognitive Radio (CR) networks. Inherent characteristics of the CR have imposed some additional security threats to the networks. One of the common threats is Primary User Emulation Attack (PUEA). In PUEA, some malicious users try to imitate primary signal characteristics and defraud the CR user...
متن کاملSpectrum Assignment in Cognitive Radio Networks Using Fuzzy Logic Empowered Ants
The prevalent communications networks suffer from lack of spectrum and spectrum inefficiency. This has motivated researchers to develop cognitive radio (CR) as a smart and dynamic radio access promised solution. A major challenge to this new technology is how to make fair assignment of available spectrum to unlicensed users, particularly for smart grids communication. This paper introduces an i...

One of the distinguishing features of implementation research is the importance given to involve implementers in all aspects of research, and as users of research. We report on a recent implementation research effort in India, in which researchers worked together with program implementers from one of the longest serving government funded insurance schemes in India, the Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme (...
