Hippocampal Auto-Associative Memory

چکیده

In the framework of autonomous navigation, the use of a cognitive map requires to perform fast and robust storage of different pieces of information. Classical models of autoassociative memory have been proven to be limited in such a context because of the well known catastrophic interference phenomenon. Taking strong inspiration from the inner organization of the hippocampus, we present in this paper a model of auto-associative memory based on 4 distinct structures (EC, DG, CA3 and CA1) where information is processed along a loop at three distinct levels and has been tested successfully on a real robot.

Memory Storage Fidelity in the Hippocampal Circuit: The Role of Subregions and Input Statistics

In the last decades a standard model regarding the function of the hippocampus in memory formation has been established and tested computationally. It has been argued that the CA3 region works as an auto-associative memory and that its recurrent fibers are the actual storing place of the memories. Furthermore, to work properly CA3 requires memory patterns that are mutually uncorrelated. It has ...

A Study on Associative Neural Memories

Memory plays a major role in Artificial Neural Networks. Without memory, Neural Network can not be learned itself. One of the primary concepts of memory in neural networks is Associative neural memories. A survey has been made on associative neural memories such as Simple associative memories (SAM), Dynamic associative memories (DAM), Bidirectional Associative memories (BAM), Hopfield memories,...

Sex Matters: Hippocampal Volume Predicts Individual Differences in Associative Memory in Cognitively Normal Older Women but Not Men

The hippocampus plays a prominent role in associative memory by supporting relational binding and recollection processes. Structural atrophy in the hippocampus is likely to induce associative memory deficits in older adults. Previous studies have primarily focused on average age-related differences in hippocampal structure and memory performance. To date, however, it remains unclear whether ind...

Targeted enhancement of cortical-hippocampal brain networks and associative memory.

The influential notion that the hippocampus supports associative memory by interacting with functionally distinct and distributed brain regions has not been directly tested in humans. We therefore used targeted noninvasive electromagnetic stimulation to modulate human cortical-hippocampal networks and tested effects of this manipulation on memory. Multiple-session stimulation increased function...

The role of the human hippocampus in odor-place associative memory.

Hippocampal lesions in rodents impair both object-place and odor-place associative memory. Subjects with hippocampal damage have impaired associative memory such as object-place memory. Whereas studies have investigated some types of associative memory, no investigation has specifically examined odor-place associative memory in subjects with well-defined amnesia. It is unknown whether amnesic s...
