Increased MT2-MMP expression in gastric cancer patients is associated with poor prognosis.

چکیده
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of proteolytic enzymes that contribute to tumorigenesis and metastasis due to their ability to degrade the extracellular matrix (ECM) and basement membrane. In despite of many reports in other solid tumors, the role of membrane type-2 MMP (MT2-MMP) in gastric cancer (GC) remains to be elucidated. The aim of this study was to investigate MT2-MMP expression in human GC tissue microarray (TMA) samples using immunohistochemistry (IHC). We found that MT2-MMP expression in tumor tissues was significantly higher compared to peritumoral tissues (P < 0.01). However, there were no statistically significant differences between MT2-MMP expression and clinicopathological parameters. In addition, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis showed GC patients with high MT2-MMP expression have poor overall survival (OS) compared to patients with low MT2-MMP expression (P = 0.013, P = 0.040, respectively). In conclusion, MT2-MMP is involved in GC invasion and metastasis and may serve as an independent prognostic factor for GC patients.

متن کاملHER-2/neu Marker Examination using Immunohistochemical Method in Patients Suffering from Gastric Adenocarcinoma
Gastric adenocarcinoma is the second leading cause of death due to cancer in the world and in advanced stages the prognosis is poor with current therapies. Over-expression of HER-2/neu has been seen in several cancers such as gastric cancer and its expression is associated with poor prognosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the over-expression of HER-2/neu in gastric biopsy samples of pat...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Prognostic Value and TRIP13 gene Expression in Gastric Cancer
Introduction: Gastric cancer is a major public health issue worldwide. The factors that initiate cancer are not well understood, however aberrant expression of genes is associated with this cancer. TRIP13 plays pivotal roles in meiotic recombination, DNA repair, and cell cycle progression. An increasing body of evidence suggests that TRIP13 may possess functions other than meiosis and mitosis, ...
متن کاملHeat Shock Protein 60 Overexpression Is Associated with the Progression and Prognosis in Gastric Cancer
BACKGROUND Heat shock protein 60 (HSP60) is a chaperonin with essential functions for cell physiology and survival, and its expression correlates with prognosis in a number of malignancies. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship of HSP60 status with clinicopathological parameters and prognosis in gastric cancer. METHODS The levels of HSP60 and matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP-9)...
متن کاملElevated FOXO6 expression correlates with progression and prognosis in gastric cancer
The FOXO6 correlated with tumor progression in a wide range of carcinomas, yet little is known in gastric cancer. The expression of FOXO6 and matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP-9) was assessed by immunohistochemistry in 192 gastric carcinoma specimens. The correlation between FOXO6 expression with MMP-9, clinicopathological/prognostic value in gastric cancer was examined. FOXO6 overexpression was s...
