Echocardiography contrast for image optimization: beyond confidence, it is a matter of accuracy.

چکیده
Current agents not only scatter and reflect, but also interact with administered ultrasound through harmonic and multipulse sequencing to increase signal intensity over background tissue noise. Modifications in the agents, along with these unique methods of ultrasound delivery and reception, have resulted in robust and persistent contrast effect. There has been wide clinical acceptance of contrast agents for the application of improving echocardiographic imaging in patients for whom initial transthoracic images are technically suboptimal. Administration of these agents in a busy clinical practice has been shown to be efficient and cost-effective (1). Accurate visualization of endocardial borders is of crucial importance in stress echocardiography, as this technique involves assessment of global and segmental wall thickening and motion (2). In this test, the endocardial border must be assessed quickly and in multiple planes. Not surprisingly, this has become the area of echocardiography in which contrast agents are most frequently used.

A randomized cross-over study for evaluation of the effect of image optimization with contrast on the diagnostic accuracy of dobutamine echocardiography in coronary artery disease The OPTIMIZE Trial.
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the addition of a contrast agent to dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) improves its diagnostic accuracy for coronary artery disease (CAD) and to determine the effect of image quality on the diagnostic impact of contrast agent use in this setting. BACKGROUND Contrast agents can improve endocardial border definition. To date, ho...
متن کاملOptimization of Bremsstrahlung imaging in Yttrium internal radiation therapy
Introduction: Treatment efficacy of radiation therapy using Yttrium-90 radionuclide is evaluated by the bremsstrahlung SPECT imaging following radiation therapy. The radioisotopic images have the ability to provide reliable activity map of 90Y distribution. But these images have a low quantitative accuracy in the 90Y bremsstrahlung SPECT imaging, therefore the optimization of...
متن کاملA General Framework for 1-D Histogram-baesd Image Contrast Enhancement
In this paper, a general framework for image contrast enhancement algorithm based on an optimization problem is presented. Through this optimization, the intensities can be better distributed. The algorithm is based on the facts that the histogram of the enhanced image is close to the input image histogram and uniform distribution, simultaneously. Based on this fact, we obtain a closed form opt...
متن کاملSimulation and patient studies of scatter correction in cardiac SPECT imaging
Introduction: Myocardial perfusion imaging is a nuclear medicine imaging method that is used to detect coronary artery diseases. One of the main sources of error in this imaging method is the detection of Compton scattered photons in the photopeak energy window used for data acquisition. This results in the degradation of the image contrast, and therefore decreases the...
متن کاملDetermination of the optimum filter for qualitative and quantitative 99mTc myocardial SPECT imaging
Background: Butterworth, Gaussian, Hamming, Hanning, and Parzen are commonly used SPECT filters during filtered back-projection (FBP) reconstruction, which greatly affect the quality and size accuracy of image. Materials and Methods: This study involved a cardiac phantom in which 1.10 cm thick cold defect was inserted into its myocardium wall and filled with 4.0 μCi/ml (0.148 MBq/ml) 99mTc conc...
